So I was browsing A2A and decided to go to Helm's link to the Chinese-Cardboard thing. I click on the link, and then all of a sudden, the internet explorer page closes itself. So i try to open a new page. Then, when I type in A2A's website, it shuts down. Then I try again, and put in Google. it shuts away as well. Then, when i try to open another, the whole thing just shuts down eventually. Like, I can't even view my home page because it closes automatically. But, that only happened to one of my pages; i had another internet explorer window opened, and that didn't go away after I clicked on Helm's link. Then, when I try to do something on that one, nothing is wrong. I can use it regularly. Now I'm using Mozilla Firefox.Any suggestions on what's wrong?

Weird Internet Explorer - Closes right away.

What version of IE are you running? If you downloaded and use the new one, that's a common issue. I had the same problem with mine. The other thing is you may be infected with mal/spyware. Download Spybot-S&D, update it, and check for problems. Also if you have time after you do the spybot check, download, update, and run Lavasoft's ad-aware SE.See what happens. btw, if you have mcafee or norton, they really don't do anything but take up space. it may be your IE settings as well. Restore them to default, and see if that works

Alright. I have Spybot SD and Lavasoft; I just updated the two and both are scanning the computer now.--How do I change the settings of my IE without accessing it?
-
I've tried both things and the problem still isn't fixed :[
Edit: Okay, now the problem got a bit better, the internet explorer homepage shows up now, but I can't visit any sites; unless I want to close it on purpose.
-
Which IE version are you using? If you go to internet options or properties, there should be an "advanced" tab, you can hit a button called "restore defaults". did the two scans find anything?
-
yeah, but I cleaned out all of it. And I set everything on Internet Explorer back to its default. I can now visit my homepage but can't go farther than that.--scratch that. I can't visit my homepage anymore.

Have you shut down your computer and restarted it yet?I do the IT/Computer work on the side in my company. If there is a weird problem oing on, that is one of the first things I do.
-
not yet; I'll do that now x.x Of all things, I couldn't think of that...?wow for me ><EDIT: I'm back and... no dice. :[

You can search with mozilla firefox right?
check out this site: http://castlecops.com
If you need to, create an account, and post your problem there or search their forums. That site has helped with soooo many problems that go on on my computers. They are pretty expedient and know what they're doing. Keep in mind, they don't get paid to help and most do it as a hobby so response times may vary. But that site is fantastic, free downloads of spywar/malware scanners and cleaners. I suggest checking them out.
-
Okay, thanks. I'll use that site and wait for an answer. If all turns out the way I don't want it to, then I guess I'll probably use firefox for the rest of my life o.o... or at least until I can get an answer.

Try deleting all you cookies. If that doesn't work then try to disable all your add-on's.In IE 6 & 7, It's under Tools > Manage Add-ons. Go through each item in the list and disable them, especially ones that look like that don't belong. See if this helps. Also disabling all the add-ons execpt the ones you need or want, will make your IE run faster.
-
Wow, sdp! After I disabled all my add-ons, I got IE to work. I just don't know which ones to enable again x.x.
On the bright side, I'm actually typing this on IE, though! :]
-
Go back and reactivate them one by one. Open IE and then see if it works. Once it won't open correctly you'll have your answer lol. Just enable the other ones.
-
Alright; it's done. Thanks to the both of you, sdp, blackmanoncampus. You guys were heaps of help :]
-
No problem man, good to hear things are back to normal

Look at your IE and see if things are missing, like some toolbar that you use. For the most part, you don't need most of that crap.Of the stuff you disabled, you should be able to recognize what is what.. like Yahoo Toolbar, Google or things like that. Enable it only if you want it or use it. Other things you might need like Java, shockwave, acrobat. Those you should enable... Things that look really strange or you don't recognize, probably shouldn't be there..Just be aware that you might run into a webpage that might need something that is disabled. It should/might ask you to enable it or at least tell you what is missing, and then you can go back and reenable it. Good luck
