A friend of mine is getting married in August, first time I've been to a wedding that doesnt involve my parents on the guestlist. I'm looking forward to it very much, I think their a fantastic couple!I'm concerned about clothing though. I own a dark-grey suit, plain white shirts, and a couple of ties; one black and pin-striped (I figure this is a no-go cos I'm not going to a funeral), and the other is red silk. Problem is while I look smart in this I look very business like. I dont want to look like I'm going to a business event lol.I dont know how to spice up my look for this as I'm not entirely sure about what is and isnt appropriate for a wedding. What about going tie-less and with a more exciting shirt? Any thoughts atall?Cheers!I wont be able to reply for a few days cos I'm going away tommorow lol.

Appropriate clothes for a wedding

There are no real rules here any more. Once the answer would have been "suit and tie", and this is still safe. No-one will criticise you for looking business-like.However it's now very unlikely that anyone will criticise you for not wearing a tie, either. Even in a church, most churches in the UK now are so glad to see someone through the door, they wouldn't dream of bothering about what they wear. The only rule, really, is that you shouldn't upstage the bride and groom. It's their day, you're a guest, so it's not like a nightclub where everyone is competing. If the reception is in a very swank place they may have their own dress code.
