so, I'm off to a Muslim wedding today, Sufi to be exact.Very close friends of mine were wonderful enough to invite us to their spiritual union. It will be traditional. Men and women sitting separately. I'll participate in the zicker. I'm looking forward to it and the broadening of my cultural experience. If, by chance, I've been wrong all along and Islam is in fact inherently evil (as some suggest - you know who you are) I'll report back... or I'll just blow myself up on the Toronto subwaylove and kaboomMr U

Those evil Muslims

It's a good experience.A good majority of my friends from campus are Muslim and they've been showing/teaching me their traditions and what not. It's pretty awesome. I'm going to India and Pakistan with a couple of them next spring. Uber excited

What a great experience to have! I hope you enjoy it.
You infidel you...

Thanks! It was really fun and interesting. I've got quite a broad level of experience but this was a first for me.We all sat on the floor, men in one area, women in another. Couples were welcome to sit together if that felt more comfortable to them. We sat apart, in keeping with tradition. It began with the Sheikh speaking for a time, unscripted, on points of import and interest regarding love, faith and history. He invited questions from both the members and the visitors but asked all to refrain from politics, presumably to avoid disharmony. He was a very engaging speaker, full of mirth. Then there was the call to prayer. I decided to join in with the men out of respect for our gracious hosts. Most have seen Muslim preying. I have to admit to a dizzy spell after a transition from kneeling with my head bowed right to the floor then standing up! We all had tea.The wedding ceremony was equally casual and very spiritual. We had dinner. They brought in low tables and we all sat together on the floor for a communal meal.We all had more tea. Then the music. This was really cool. A small band (flute, violin, drums and cymbal) played. The Sheikh did much of the singing with many of the men performing zicker (a kind of rhythmic breathing/chant - very hypnotic). Then the whirling dervishes began. This is really something to see! 2 men in traditional costume meditate an pray. Then, in a trance-like state, they begin to spin. This must be seen to be appreciated. They twirl like dancers but unlike in ballet, they don't do a head-snap to prevent dizziness. they just keep spinning, eyes closed, in a very calm a serene state. They keep it up while the music plays for well over 20 minutes!!We all had a bit more tea.I'm not running to convert but I have to admit, this was one of the most spiritual experiences I've encountered in my various visits to places of worship.

Can you say... Shariah?

you're suck a fucking little cunt, you know that?
-
Ha, discussing other religious laws when you probably can't list the ten commandments...
-
...thaaaat's right...I forgot the first rule of liberal discussion: When you can't make any meaningful counterpoint, try to attack the other person. The two words most liberals can't manage to enunciate are "you're right".

I don't think Mr.U's response was any sort of rebuttal to your post, but was an emotional response to your tactless post in a thread about the wedding of a friend of his.
-
If that's all it was, I would not have posted what I did. But it was more than just that, and both of you know it.
-
It may have been more than that, I don't know. But I think it would have been appropriate to post that link in a new thread. Although who knows, Mr.U might disagree with me.
-
Can all of you stop your fucking bickering? You sound like a female on her rag!!!This goes to every thread that is ongoing right now.. its just a big fight.. cant we all get along???

Actually, I thought what he had to say was interesting. Other cultures, to me, are both fascinating while yet reminding me of how similar we all are, in many ways. But I felt a dose of reality was in order when noting the sarcasm present in the thread title. -
you are still a pissy little cunt with no concept of current life or historyseriously, you hate the truth almost as much as you hate the niggers. Good luck with that
