Ok guys.. maybe I just play too many video games.. Maybe I don't get enough physical exercize. or something..But, for at least the lst 3 years or so.. I have had pretty rough sleeping habits. Going to sleep after 12 and getting up at about 6 has probably been the rule.Going to sleep at 2 is probably more common then I realise. Lately I have (when I lie down) been able to go straight to sleep. However, I seem to remember.. (could be my mind playing tricks on me) back in my sophmore year of highschool.. the average amount of sleep was probably less then 4 hours a night..I also hit certain days.. (the weekend) where I will sleep like 12 hours or more if I am allowed to just sleep.Any idea what might be causing this? or is it just my bad sleeping habits or what.(sorry it seems like I'm posting about some issue or something daily.. )

Erratic sleeping habits.

if benydryl, the allergy drug makes you sleepy, take that around 10 or 9 and you'll fall asleep in no time and wake up refreshed. i take one if i cant fall asleep and am out in less than 30 mins.

Erm.. I really dislike the idea of using medication to solve an issue. For one thing some medication backfires. It will wire me up instead of tiring me out. Another is I dislike the idea of dependency on medication. Further more I probably don't have to remark on the dangers of medication in general.

I agree. A glass of warm milk is probably as far as you should go with medication, unless you have serious anxiety problems.
One thing that I think is important is winding down to bedtime - spending the time before doing relaxing things, not things that get you wired up.
I think you should be trying to get into more regular sleeping habits and getting to bed a bit earlier.

I take Benadryl for my allergies at night and it does not leave me refreshed if I take it after 9 p.m. If I do, I usually wake up feeling groggy, not refreshed. Like Ineligible said, drinking a warm glass of milk (ewwww) should help. I find that reading before bed can also help. Also, I noticed that when I started working and staying on a regular schedule, I fall asleep quicker and I have less trouble falling asleep.

Just dont drink caffeine or eat ANY sugar after 6 pm

You could just naturally have funny sleeping habits. I read some where that some people are naturally prone to staying up late, because they don't have hte same chemical that tells you to go to sleep at night, and be awake during the day. Also, some people can just naturally run on less sleep, even though it's not as healthy as a full 7 or 8. If you like yoga, there are just night yoga things that you can do before you go to sleep, and it relaxes you quite a bit.

Once it gets closer to college I will try getting up for 7 every day.having a "regular" sleeping habit didn't really help me in highschool.I have always been one to stay up late.. since I was little I had no real desire to go to bed at 8 (when I was really little)..I personally love the night.. I think I am naturally nocturnal. No matter when I go to sleep.. It actually doesn't bother me to wake up at like 4 in the morning.. but, waking up at 5 to 6 hurts.. bad..I usually don't need much sleep.. but, still it would be nice to have that extra energy.. I hate crashing and sleeping for like 12 hours or more on the weekend.
