wasnt sure which forum to put this topic in...im not really deppressed just very often bored, empty, lost, anxious. i am only ever satisfied when i get to participate in some adrenalin producing sport, racing is the most fun i can possibly have. the only problem is, i dont actually have the money to support any of these exciting sports and hobbies, so i am constantly bored with everything and anxious to start having fun and excitement all the time. i know for people with extremely high sex drives they have libido reducers, to keep them from becoming a danger to society aswell as constantly tormented by their lack of satisfaction. but i dont know if what i have is a real problem or has any solutions. any advice, articles, etc, would be much appreciated.

Adrenalin Withdrawal
-
There are activities like mountain-climbing that might be more affordable. But the human body isn't built to run under adrenalin all the time, and I wonder if it is acting like a drug for you.
-
i doubt i am actually addicted to adrenaline, i just crave all those sports and and disinterested by everything else. thanks for the mountain climbing suggestion. i really love climbing and hadnt thought of it. i dont think there is anywhere to climb where i live though. the other thing i was thinking about is mountain biking. as long as i dont need a serious bicycle, that is a pretty cheap sport.

There was a spot on TV (like 20/20 or something) about personalities like yours. They thrive on risk taking and extreme sports. I don't quite remember what they said but there are alot of people like you.

I have the same problem, but i turned to the wrong stimulation. (Drugs.)Dont get into that. What I have found as an excellent alternative is Paintball. Its great for adrenaline, and doesn't require any experience or skill.
-
lol. i just sold my $800 paintball gun due to expenses. the only way i would get back into paintball is if i could pick up a pump gun and do the woodsballing thing on the cheap. but thats not an option either, since the woodsball field is too far away.
id be very interested to find that 20/20 video and see if i learn anything about myself.

oh damn.
well you can go without your own gun, just as a once in a while thing -
basic hiking is affordable if some trails are close by but trust me climbing and mountaineering and mountain climbing are not affordable.I have more money in my climbing and orientation equipment than msot people have in a car.Iv been heavy into it for about ... 10 years on rock and about 7 on ice. Climbing gear alone Iv spent well over 20 grand in that time.beaners break, ropes wear out and I go through about 3 to 5 ropes each summer and another 1 or 2 over winter on ice. figure a dry rope is setting me back about 300 dollars and atleast 150 depending on what brand and the fall rating.Harnesses wear out too. Iv gone through 5 harnesses myself and own several to accomodate my kids and friends that go on a sporadic basis. quikdraws wear out, all gear wears out not to mention Iv lost some due to being forced off a route and abandoning gear. none of its cheap to begin with and replacement is always needed.Mountain climbing... shit Iv spent about another 7 or 8 grand jsut on trips to climb. its nearly 1000 miles each way for me to hit hood and rainere, permits for some are required, big ones cant be done in a day and I have a single person tent that set me back about 400 dollars and another 100 for the footprint to lay it inteh snow. add in sleeping bags good to 30 below, clothes that shed water and retain heat, a good compass, even better a small GPS unit, maps, research. 2 failed attempts in teh wind river range of wyoming before sucess on the third trip. car repairs due to shit racked up logging so many miles. Caving is expensive too, but mroe affordable than climbing. a hemut for about 120, a good light at about another 60 to 80 pending style and brand and LED, a harness thats comfortable to hang in, for caves I prefer the black diamond BOD, no cushion but cheaper, and thinner so easier to crawl into and out of tight places, I think that one set me back another 50, good boots another 200 and a rope. I like atleast 300 feet of static. You cnat climb on it, but its excellent for rapping and for jumaring, thats another 140 for static in a 11mm size.some rapping gloves ( they give so much more control than jsut leather ones) another 30 bucks and all teh beaners and hangers not to mention learning the knots and safe back ups and then the jumars to climb back out with, I like petzl and its about 130 for a pair and then anotehr 10 bucks in webbing to make leg loops or another 50 for daisy chains if you dont wnat to make your own.Climbing of any kind is inherintly dangerous, and very expensive. a single ice screw is 110 dollars and I have about 12 of them, toss in a screamer (shock absorber good for one fall) attached to each of them and Im up another 4 or 5 hundred dollars that has to be replaced if I fall once, add in ice tools at about 3 to 400 a pair... an ice axe, crampons, anti ball plates, plastic boots that start around 400 dollars for the cheaper pairs.... you can see where its going, mountains are expensive,so are the trips to climb them, even climbing routes and moutnains clsoe to home will set me back 200 for a trip. If I were seeking adrenaline and didnt have cash Id look into jump school.youl go on a static line but its only about 100 bucks for a first jump, 10 jumps later you cna free fall. expensive? yes! but the high lasts for well over a month.Bungee jumping was good for a while I made over 200 jumps before it got to where it no longer provided a rush.most of them off of towers, later on 300 feet from a hot air balloon. That jump cost me about 100 dollars, but the rest on towers were about 20 each and with a deal a local place had for a bit I could do 2 jumps for 25 total.adrenaline is expensive. I drive old trucks (chevy, 78 long bed and a 1990 dodge grand caravan and a 1971 honda motor cycle) because I cant afford to seek adrenaline and to have new cars. for 200 dollars you can get a 2 season tent and a fishing pole and head into the woods alone for a night with a bag rated to local temps.Iv been packing in alone for days at a time in the wilderness country and ran across more than a few bears and moose and unknown noises at 3 am in a tent. a trip alone is always an adrenaline rush.anymore I use a hammock and a tarp for a roof and a net I made to zip over my bed and under my tarp to pack in alone. I can sleep high from teh ground where its harder for bears to reach me and most animals walk under me and it lets me stay in places that msot campers dont want to drop a tent into because of rocks or mud.a small rope ladder tied into teh trees I suspend it from make in and out easy, a pouch sew on teh hammocks edge for my shoes mean they are always handy before hitting the ground. of course the backpack I have cost me a tad over 300 but the comfott of carry on a kelty is far better than any other pack Iv ever tried and Iv been through a few of them.consider some solitary packing for some adrenaline, its relatively cheap if anythign worth packing into exists nearby.

I was hoping you'd reply, Chance, since you know far more about it than the rest of us put together.

Grvtykllr - WOW i never realized climbing could be so expensive. although i suppose for 17 years of it, 20 grand is not that much compared to say, a single season of motorcycle racing.
jumping sounds so sweet. there actually is a place close to me but at those prices i think i will wait until i can afford all 10 at the same time so i can do freefall.
just wondering, after skydiving, is bungee jumping just total weaksauce or are they 2 different kinds of awesomeness?
-
holy shit
that looks awesome -
Come on, that looks harmless. If they could tell me I'd be safe without that caeg, that'd be more fun
