OK, bought an ATI visiontek radeon 9250 the other day, problem though, we can get it physically installed but the computer doesnt seem to recognize it, if i plug the monitor into it nothing happens, and the computer doesnt seem to have "found new hardware" and ive already looked and it doesnt need a power source seeing as there is no connector for it on the cardi mean ive looked at the installation instructions on the CD that came with it, and just dont know what to do, any ideas?

Graphics Card
-
What kinda computer do you have?
-
are your sure they are even compatable..Just because it fits doesn't mean it always works.
-
nothing special just a compaq presario 4000 i mean im not planning on running a series of hacks into government computers, id just like things to run a little smootherEDITwell im not too knowledgeable about innerworking of computers and such but the system requirements match up so
-
thats very strange... i guess you could just make sure its connected okay, and then theres always the possibility that it could just be a bad card...were you running onboard graphics before, or did you replace another card
-
its onboard graphics
-
hmmm...honestly idk what could be wrong with itid have to be right there with the computer myself hahathats one thing i can only help people with in person =[
-
yeah, well i checked out the site and the forums and it seems a few people have had the same problem and i think they ended up returning it or something, after calling the visiontek people who told them to call their computers manufacturer, so i may just end up returning it looking for something else another timeif nobody has an idea
-
did u buy it from a store or online?
-
a store
-
oh thats good. yeah i think you should just return it and get another. nvidias are really good. i dont have one, my computers suck, but a few of my friends upgraded to nvidia and said they were pretty good.
-
well its not like its really that important id just like things to run smoother, as well as the onboard grapics well the company that made it, arent producing drivers or updates for them anymore so..as well as its not like i got a whole lots a money so, this one i bought at wal mart on sale so...
-
thats true i think nvidias are expensive... idk though because i honestly dont know how much graphics cards cost at all hahaid guess like $50 for an average onei guess just look online some more and see if you can get it working, if not just return it and keep the money since its not that importantyou could always upgrade your ram too, thats an quick and easy way to boost performance.
-
well this one was something around 100 originally but was on sale so, as for RAM i did that awhile ago, its not like things all around are bad so
-
oh haha thats find u can get another good card for that much, i know that
-
did you disable the onboard graphics card?
With some computers, if you add hardware that competes with hardware that's still active, i.e. stock motherboard with integrated graphics card, it will still want to use the onboard and not attempt to use the new one.
-
This may seem like a dumb question but are you sure that you're plugging the monitor into the video port for the new card and not that of the on board video? I made that mistake before--went through all kinds of checks and frustration only to find that simple error.
-
yes im sure im plugging it into the right thing and yes i disabled the onboard graphics
-
yup and it still didnt recognize it
-
ok so the computer does kind of recognize it, but it just doesnt seem to work, if i have that plugged into the PCI bus and the monitor plugged into it, nothing happens, the monitor is on but theres just no feed or something, and the same thing happens if i plug the monitor back into the original slot so the card is obviously interfering if its plugged in just nothing seems to be happening
