How many people believe that everything that happens in this world is pre-written (By a higher power)? How many people believe that we and only we are responsible for life's outcomes? How many people believe that there's a difference between destiny and fate?I believe EVERYTHING, including lil miniscule things, happen for a reason. Meaning: everything was pre written long before we were walking this earth.People can still change their life path, but only those who were meant to change it. Others succumb to life's tragedies. Such as the drug addict who dies of an overdose compared to the one that gets clean and becomes a drug counselor. The counselor was not "meant" to die before he had the chance to help others...What's your opinion, without having an argument about religion (That's NOT what I'm trying to start here). Just trying to get a sense since I know there are a lot of Religious folks and Pagans on here.

Destiny vs. Fate
-
Ummmm..... destiny and fate are the same thing.Anyways, I don't believe in our lives are predetermined.
-
Destiny and fate? I always thought of them as one and the same...I do beleive were all put here to accomplish something. Whether it is the drug addict who dies in order to teach someone who ISN'T supposed to do drugs how deadly they are, OR the one who lives to get clean and teach of it's hazards.I think there is a reason for everything, whether or not it is pre written I don't know. I believe that there are choices to be made, and misery can be one of the side effects of making poor ones. *odd that you ask this question though. I was in my kitchen cleaning up, and was thinking of the suicide note my friend left me. I actually THANKED him for dying...Had he not done it, I would have struggled along in a bad relationship longer, I would have never had the space to heal that I had before I met the WONDERFUL man I have now. Had he not died I would have continued to drink like a fish. I wouldn't be where I am now...His final words to me "I hope you find your happiness". I finally feel as though I am on that path.

I don't really believe in either. I don't think anything is that simple. I don't believe life is preordained and I don't believe that we ourselves are entirely responsible for the outcome of our lives. As disconcerting as it may seem, I think most of life is left to chance and all we can do is react to those chance happening and try to best position ourselves and hope we've reacted and prepared in the way that will produce positive results for us.Sometimes you can do everything right and still fail miserably, it's just a matter of whether chance has smiled on you or not. We must prepare and try but ultimately I think most of our successes and failures are out of our hands and just a matter of luck of the draw.

I agree they are very similar:http://www.paralumun.com/pastdestiny.htmI respect your view, but there's too much coincidence in this world for me personally to think otherwise. Remember the similarities between Presidents Lincoln and Kennedy?http://www.coverups.com/jfk/lincoln.htm
-
Half of those coincidences aren't actually true, but they're too obscure for anyone to bother researching the truth.
Destiny and fate mean nothing to me. Without sounding too glum or anything, the only destiny that any of us has is to live and die.
-
Was he your boyfriend? If not, was he straight or gay?
-
Straight. But when a child dies of cancer, or a baby in the crib, it's not very easy to swallow, unless you have a higher concept of why things happen. Can you point us to the "real" truth behind these coincidences? I'd love to hear the facts.

LOL, I don't know what his orientation has to do with it...but, he was a fuck-buddy, well that is how it started. We couldn't really get into a couples relationship, but we became the best of friends. The only thing I didn't know was how TOTALLY depressed he was. He was always upbeat and happy around me.I guess if I had to label it, I would call him bi. BUT an open girl could take care of all his sexual wants I suppose...
-
He sounded gay or at least bicurious by the way you described him. Guess I've been working around gays too long. I have a pretty good "Gaydar."
-
He was molested by the deacon at church when he was around 14, and I guess he liked it...I don't know that he did much sexually with other men later, but he WAS one I could have had a MMF threesome with and he wouldn't have been embarrassed..lol

Why should it be easy to swallow? The whole point of destiny and fate and all that seems to be just to make people feel better when bad things happen. People don't like to accept bad stuff, they need there to be a reason, they need to know that these children aren't dying without a reason. Quote:Can you point us to the "real" truth behind these coincidences? I'd love to hear the facts. Coincidence 01 - Booth ran from the theater and was caught in a warehouse.- Oswald ran from a warehouse and was caught in a theater.Fact- Booth was actually caught in a small tobacco shed on a farm, not a warehouse.Coincidence 02 - Both John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald were assassinated before their trials.Fact- Booth died in a gunbattle, so reports of his assassination are highly exaggerated. There are other versions of that list with even more 'coincidences'. What was supposed to be the ultimate coincidence, known as "the kicker" was:- A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland.- A week before Kennedy was shot, he was in Marilyn Monroe. This had everyone absolutely convinced that it was more than just coincidence, and they were right. It was a complete fabrication. Marilyn Monroe died over one year before Kennedy's assassination. And furthermore, there is no Monroe, Maryland known to the U.S. Post Office at least. Perhaps there was in 1865.

I don't think destiny or fate give us a reason of why things happen, it just gives it purpose. We will never know the "reason" to anything celestial. We're not meant to know. If it makes a grieving parent feel better, that counts for something. Better than NOT feeling better, don't you think?
-
I never said that there was anything wrong with believing it, I just don't personally.
-
I don't think our lives are planned out already for us. I used to, but not anymore.
I mean I thought about it. What's the point of creating a whole universe when you know what's going to happen to it in every speck and detail from beginning toend anyway? It's pointless. It's like running and then watching a video of yourself running afterwards.
-
Ahhh, you never said you didn't believe in it personally either. Until now.
-
I thought I was pretty specific about that in my first pot. Quote: Destiny and fate mean nothing to me. Without sounding too glum or anything, the only destiny that any of us has is to live and die.
-
I think most people that respond will feel as you do, that life is not pre determined. When humans were "created," the universe inside our bodies (meaning the way it works) was already determined. It wasn't chance that we have the parts we have. So I think this transcends into life itself. It really isn't chance that I'm writing this. But, it's an opinion of one out of the 6.6 billion that I share office space with. Meaning earth.

Oh, yep. You sure did.

Why does your post have a calender thing by it on the index page?
