I'm not a very good dancer, and that has always concerned me. I live in an area with lots of country oriented clubs and bars, and proper dancing is always a huge chick getter. Unfortunately I'm usually a little hesitant to ask for a dance because I'm not sure what I'm doing. My current dance routine consists of four steps forward with a pause on the fourth step, is this correct?

One of, if not the most ridiculous post ever seen on this site. Don't you dare worry about what you're doing. If you worry you wont perform, forget about it and let your attraction to the girl take you forward. If not, get lessons, you can usually pick it up quite well after just the first.

When you say "is this correct," it might be for a two step or a ho down, but I dont know. Where I was born everyone dances, and with passion. I grew up in USA so salsa dancing is not the norm here. When I go to my homeland, I feel out of place, but i still dance. I can relate to what you said about girls, since most girls look for good dancers, and I'm not one of them. I come from the land of beatiful women, so I feel real awkward when everyone's twirling and spinning and I'm on the sidelines. Oh well, I can play salsa rhythms on drums, percussion, bass and keyboard and guitar, which most of these dancers cannot. So I look on the bright side. I could supply the music they dance to.

What's the dance your trying to do?

It's easy but keep in mind that I haven't two stepped in about ten years, i got into other dances.First beat:The lead steps quickly forward with the their left first.Second beat:Step forward quickly with your right foot.Third beat:Step forward slowly with your left.Fourth beat:PauseFifth beat:Step forward slowly with your right.Sixth beat:Pause for a moment then pull your left foot even with your right. Then repeat. So it's quick, quick, slow, pause..., slow, pause-together, repeat.__________________________________It's good thing no one can see me dancing around my office with an imaginary partner trying to remember this.

Don't worry about what girls think of your dancing, just be confident and act like you know what your doing. Every guy dances a little different so they won't notice anything as long as it is close. You might want to look in to swing dancing. Mix it in with two stepping. It's really impressive and fairly easy. (I'm trying to learn it myself for those reasons)As far as how the two step goes I've always been taught it's two steps forward, one half-step back. It's really close to what OldFolks described.
