Should his show have been cut short? Or is it just a slippery slope to some place we don't want to go - censorship wise?!

hah. i hear yah.
Careful there thats dangerous thinkin =/.We might have to have "ethnical reeducation camp". For you there helms. Don't you realise white people are the ones who can be racist?
I think all this racism bullshit needs to stop.. I think its only still around is because people cant let it go!
You guys are not right and have no idea what you're talking about but I'm not saying diddly sqwat on this subject.
Eh. Racism is such a tricky subject. Why I think it's still around is because some people, like someone (sorry, I can't recall your username >Looks are only skin deep, right? :T. Sometimes, you can't help but have racist feelings, being where you come from or where you live, because in my community there's a lot of, let's just say, really DUMB people, and I have to constantly remind myself that not all of them are like that and there are really smart, intellectual ones out there that really do succeed. As long as you give them a fair chance I say, then you can never really be racist :T.

Hmmm....I guess some poeple don't get it. I walked into a store this summer to buy something and the cashier called me a 'fucking nigger'. It's like I'm invisible, people don't really see me, not as I really am. All they see is a antiquated stereotype that only applies to me because I'm black. It hurts, as it would if someone called me something that I wasn't. Maybe be name calling doesn't affect you the same way it does me. The word nigger takes away my idenity as a person and I don't like that. Maybe I get too easily offended, that's just me. We can't all be as strong as we like.If you want to hate me, hate me for something I did, something I can be held responsible for. That makes some kind of sense.
I'm against calling anyone the "N" word, but I think that people have the right to say it. freedom of speech. doesn't mean it's right or wrong. and i'm also against people saying "cracker!" and stuff like that all the time. again, people have a right to say it, but that doesn't mean that I like it. so do I think that his show should be cancelled? no. do I like/respect these people who use these words? no. but, there is something that's always been unfair, nowadays. whenever a black man says "cracker" nothing happens to them. but it's the white people who say the "N" word who are considered racist. I think that this is unfair. I mean, the black man is never considered a racist (which many times they are just as racist, or more racist, than a white man), but the white man is considered a racist very easily.
here's a thought...
the "N word" is nigger
the "F word" is fuck
the "C word" is cunt
maybe we can discuss the language more effectively if we use the language
And the "L" word is lollipop.

I live in the pretty far south. and we are pretty excepting of minorities down here. Which I find really wierd because the southern states always get pinned for being "racist"
Why should she have to move to another state to escape racism? Anyway, not directed to the last poster....I think the reason white people are not offended by "Cracker" or "Whitey" is because there is no negative history associated with those words. There was never a 'Cracker drinking fountain' and no one ever said 'White ass crackas move to the back of the bus'. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand the deep feelings associated with the word nigger.
This may be off on a rabbit trail, but I’m still posting it. Racism is a tricky thing. I don’t agree with it, but it’s very easy to be pinned as a racist even when you’re just doing your job (don’t worry, I’m going to explain). I work in a small town, in a small store, and the majority of the population is Caucasian and Hispanic. It’s rare to see a black male or female in my area (which is so sad) and when someone of a different color (whether is be black or Hispanic) comes into the store and asks to use the phone or the bathroom I normally get yelled at because I say ‘no’. I get labeled as a racist all the time because I wont allow people to use the restroom - -it’s the store policy because of health code violations – you have to walk through the deli to get there - - and I wont allow people to use the phone because no one is allowed to use it - - there are signs posted all over the front door, but yet I’m racist because I said ‘no’ to a person who happens to have a darker skin tone than mine.I hear “It’s because I’m black right? Black in a white town, yeah, I get it.” Or “What? ‘Cause I’m Mexican I can’t use your phone?” and no matter what I say, I’m a racist because I’m doing my job.I’ll be the first to stand up and say I don’t give a damn if you’re black, white, yellow, brown, or green, you’ve got just as much right as I do in this world. But I personally think that people use ‘racism’ as a crutch.
Katie I can understand where you are coming from. I work in a dental office and the large majority of our clients are black. Well I'm in charge of collecting co-pays etc (along with the million of other duties I have to do lol). We accept checks but we run them through a machine that verifies the account and makes sure they is sufficient funds. Well in order to run the check I need to see valid ID, either a driver’s license or a state ID. It never fails that daily when I ask to see ID I hear "What because I'm black you don't trust me?" or "I bet if I was white you wouldn't ask to see my ID" or the famous “What because I’m black I don’t have any money?!”. Even though I try and explain to them it has nothing to do with me that the machine simply will not process a check until I swipe the ID for verification, but it doesn't matter because they have already labeled me a racists. And these are also the same people who like to slander me by calling me a fag or a “gay ass” rolls eyes, but yet they want to state that I am intolerant of others. Now granted the majority of people don’t say these things, but it doesn’t make it any less valid. It’s instances like this that makes it hard for racism to die. Like Katie I can careless what color skin someone has, treat me with respect and you’ll get it in return. Treat me like shit and you’ll get shit back.

I am only pointing out the irony that down in the south where we are allegedly "racist" there is probably a higher level of tolerance. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand the deep feelings associated with the word nigger. You have no idea how wrong you are with the "white ass crackas move to the back of the bus" comment you are.and as to the "nigger water fountain" I'm sorry ... I think I should go ask around my school "excuse me sir your black and your about 20 years old let me ask.. have you ever had to drink from the nigger water fountain?". Most of the people in todays society have never had to deal with true racism.I think I have been a victem of racism just as much as anyone else in todays society.Ya know. I don't hate all black people. However, what has made me resent black people more then anything else is middleschool. One guy I knew "oh its cause I'm black" when race had nothing to do with the conversation. "your wrong" he would reply "oh its cause i'm black". Not to mention a racist teacher I had.. She would allow one particular guy to do whatever he wanted but, far be it for a white student to raise his hand.Thank god the black people I met in highschool were intolerant of racism on both sides. If it weren't for people like a particular friend I have now.. I'd have eventually begun to assume all black people were sour, racist and intolerent of white people because of things that happened to their dead and burried ancestors.
@ Lish > I think what you said is dead on. In fact, I think it goes further. It seems cracker, or whatever, is worn with pride as evidence of the "mastership" it implies.
>>>"You have no idea how wrong you are with the "white ass crackas move to the back of the bus" comment you are."
You have no idea how naive you are.
>>>"Most of the people in todays society have never had to deal with true racism."
You mean, you haven't. You've never been pulled over for driving to nice of a car for what your ethnicity can generally afford. You've never been followed around the store because it's assumed your going to steal something. You've never had teachers brush you off because, they assume your just going to be a laborer or thief. You've never had your application passed over because your name sounds to ethnic and that supposedly implies negative things about you. You've never had beer bottles thrown at you while being told to, "get out of (our) country". You've never been escorted out of town by the local gun toting Klansman because your car had the audacity to break down in (their) town. Just because you haven't perpetrated it or it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. There is more to the world than can be seen from any one vantage point.
>>>"I think I have been a victem of racism just as much as anyone else in todays society."
Think again junior.
>>>"Ya know. I don't hate all black people."
What, just most? A third, maybe a fifth?
>>>"However, what has made me resent black people more then anything else is middleschool."
That's a world of experience talking there. And, it's always wise to judge a race of people by its adolescent members.
>>>"I'd have eventually begun to assume all black people were sour, racist and intolerent of white people because of things that happened to their dead and burried ancestors."
It isn't just their "dead relatives" shit still happens to them and don't forget that the societal hurtles and plites they find themselves in now is do to the things their dead relatives had to endure. Maybe, had his father be allowed to reach his potential he could have afforded to send his boy to college. Maybe then, this man wouldn't have to live in the ghetto. Maybe then his kids would have better opportunities.
Racism is more than calling somebody nigger or making them drink from a different water fountain. Even when all the inequities of classism and segregation are gone the effects of those policies are still going to be felt for generations and denial of that fact only serves to prolongate the residual effects of this nations racist history.
Well said Scotty! To me, racism and sexism (yeah, I’m going to throw that in there) go hand and hand, and I highly doubt they’ll ever go away because ignorance is widespread.
I'm afraid that society will find that sexism is going to be the harder prejudice to cast off because so few take it seriously or even think it exists at all. Only time will tell.
