I'm not sure what it is, but this rule applies moreso online than in real life. For some reason, no matter what forum I go to, what chat room I enter, even online video games, people don't like me. I don't exactly do anything to provoke them either. I just don't understand how I'm supposed to be "one of them" if they hate me from the start. I feel as though I have this bad aura or something surrounding me. After I quarrel with these people, I tend to get pretty angry and say things that I don't necessarily mean, but if they didn't provoke me in the first place it wouldn't have happened. Can anyone help, or is this just a figment of my imagination and I need to stop singling myself out.

Do people hate me that much?

I tend to get pretty angry and say things that I don't necessarily mean, but if they didn't provoke me in the first place it wouldn't have happened. maybe i'm reading too much into this, but your dad has anger issues. have you learned them from him? people may provoke you, but why not just walk away? you can choose how you react instead of blaming them.(sorry - i really do worry about your situation, but i had to point it out.)
-
I understand what you mean, and thank you for worrying, but the reason why I wrote this is because I want these people to see me as a friend and not an enemy. I only react when they provoke me, and if I choose to walk away, then I have to find another group and the cycle will begin all over again. I am looking to know how I can deal with these people and make them stop saying the insulting things that they do, and to treat me like a friend just as they treat one another.

Well... the internet is cruel and no matter where you go there will always people who provoke other people... just ingore it I guess.
-
well can you give an example? do they just come out of left field with rude comments??
-
No, its more like we'll be discussing a topic on a forum. For example, the new Catwoman movie that is coming to theatres. I'll say something about it, and sure enough someone either has something bad to say about my opinion, or will randomly say how I am gay or how I have a small penis or something stupid like that. I reply normally in one of two ways: I'll try to ignore it and tell them to cut it out, or I'll get mad and insult back. Either way I reply, they continue.

wait when you talk to people on online games do you talk or do you type
-
Nope. Nothing of the sort.
-
well the obvious is: why do you care what some stranger on the net thinks of you?i don't have any good advice except to ignore it completely, don't even respond. if i remember you are about 17 and the people in the chat rooms are probably from 12 to 20's. not a particularly mature group. (i include myself - i had my moments when i was that age. 'course there was no internet then...)do you stick around to see if they do this to others?
-
They do it to each other occasionally, although not too much. I do try to ignore it, however I still want to be a part of the forum as there are other members who aren't jackasses. And I care about what some dope on the net says only when it comes to insults, because I really don't like insults in any form. Insults are like witche's bane to me, it knocks my self esteem six feet under.

It's the internet...deal with it. It's not exacly the kindest "world".
-
Aren't you the epitome of kindness. Any other suggestions?

She's right.. I said the same thing a few posts above. It happens to me every day too, and I hate it just as much as you do but I ignore it...
