Yeah. Okay. So I've been working on this computer problem for the last two hours and it suposedly tells me that someone's trying to hack my computer and tells me to install this thing that I need to buy but gives me a "free scan."I know this trick well. This "free scan" will give me a false amount of viruses/ things wrong with my computer and I'm supposed to be all shocked and the whole nine yards, and supposed to buy the dang thing. Well, you know what? I have ad-aware 2007, and Spybot S&D, so I don't need a fake advertisement crap. But it keeps saying at the bottom where my programs are at the right "Your computer is infected! Click here to blah blah blah." which just leaves me to the site to get that "Free scan." I've also gone to downloading ZoneAlarm firewall, and before this happened, I had these notices that Spybot detected about some important registry items are trying to change but I denied all the changes and put it on my blacklist. Now, as far as I know, there's no real problem except when I visit my homepage its that stupid site telling me my computer is infected, and that retarded popup from the bottom right of my corner. I have yet to receive any trash popups, and hopefully will not get any. Also, when I restarted my computer, my desktop was changed to: "Your computer is infected with spyware! blah blah..."Yeah. So should I be concerned? Oh yeah, there's a popup that claims its from "Security Center" and tells me I have a virus with a 5/5 risk level but just leaves me to the stupid site to get the fake free scan. This condition is really pissing me off and I don't have time for this. Thanks in advance. Thank you especially for the people who read this. I know it's lengthy but problems are problems and how much it is for you to read shouldn't matter. It never matters for me, unless I'm caught in a time of sparse free-time.***Edit: I am currently scanning my compuer with Ad-Aware 2007 and it's picked up 72 infections, so I'm waiting for it to finish (which will take about an hour

Computer Problem... again <.<
-
Sounds (to me) like adware..
If Ad aware doesn't get rid of it then tell me later.
I am also going to give you a warning.. becareful with anitvirus software.
Antivirus software is like cutting off your leg to avoid stubbing your toes :smirk:
-
Do you have HijackThis ?This will give you a good indication of what startup programs and what processess are currently running in the background. After you scan it, you should go to an online forum, such as this and post the log. Or you can post them here and maybe someone could identify something that's unusual. But, don't delete anything unless you're absolutely sure what it is.Do you have any antivirus software?

Quote:Antivirus software is like cutting off your leg to avoid stubbing your toes I beg to differ.

Er. I have Symantec Antivirus, and an Antivirus Function with ZoneAlarm, but it won't let me use it until I uninstall Symantec, because apparently, it's interfering with ZoneAlarm. I don't have HijackThis, but I will take it into consideration. Thanks. :] I'll wait for the Ad Aware scanning to finish up and clear them out and restart my computer and see if anything changes.

You don't need to have both of those antivirus programs running at the same time. Get rid one one of them. Zone Alarm has a good firewall and some of Symantec's older antivirus programs are okay. But if you want some good, free choices: AVG Anti-virus or Avast are nice.

I have alot of experience in this background, first I just wanna say that be really careful with Hijackthis, because you can really screw over you computer with that. The Best programs out there, AVG, Ad-aware and Panda Software. There is also something called Combofix, which I have however, you need to know what yoru doing when you use it. Disregard the thing that is popping up, its ad-ware, and every time you click it, your just getting more ad-ware and more trackers.

Hm. I can't argue the details.I will try to find the document my brother had.I wil say antivirus software can do some pretty nasty things though. Granted it depedns on the software in itself.
-
If you want a nice, small but highly effective anti-virus and web monitoring software, go for Nod32.
-
Agreed. If you're running Windows(and Mac too probably) going without it is a Very Bad Idea(tm)
-
Ok.
How desperate are you and how good with computer software are you?
My brother was having pop up problems and here is what he did. (WARNING IF YOUR NOT GOOD WITH BASIC COMP KNOWLEDGE AVOID THIS)
He downloaded a program called Noadware.
Now this program will find the issues.. but, to delete them using the program you have to register it.
However, if your cheap.. (my brother is.. being 14) You can do like he did and go in and delete the files manually.

If you have a name for the particular trojan you have, a google search will usually bring up discussion of how to remove it.HijackThis can be useful in showing odd things that are running.

Um, the computer's kind of better now. Sure, the computer in the other room may have become a BIT slower, and this one goes to "This Page Cannot Be Displayed" once in a while, but it's not like it's horrible x.X. Five different scans and removals did the trick to remove whatever it was that became a parasite on my computer.Yes, finally no annoyances so that I could venture on to Chapter 20! This being a weekend night, I have time to write as well! Cheers!
