Latley, I don't know why, I have been having urges for smoking weed. I don't know why. I am in highschool, I have never done any drugs, and I don't smoke tobacco. I know friends which sell it, so I could get it easily. What if I did start smoking? Is it really that bad??

Marijuana

Is it really that bad??The best way to answer that question is to go out there and find out for yourself. And I'm not talking about reading those .gov sites who will obviously tell you it's bad and makes you crazy.Try something like erowid.org which gives straight facts about various drugs.

Its harmless as long as you take it responsibly.
-
*Mostly harmelss.
it is a proven fact bobbo that one joint is equal damage wise to about 10 ciggys. thats not harmelss. -
yeah but that depends on what you talk about damage. for instance the who said for your lungs weed is better then cigarettes the problem comes in without the filter. the who also said in a different article that they consider as a drug weed to be better for you then cigs or alcohol. if you smoke once you will be fine. if you smoke once every other week you will still be fine as long as you dont smoke like that your whole life. try it out have fun being high and go from that experience.

I dunno about 10 cigarettes. I always read about at least 4 cigs to 1 joint.Either way, weed is still mostly harmless.
-
heres something to show how bad cigs are for you (i recognize that they are bad and still smoke them regularly (not an addict though)):
1. take a cig and a tissue
2. take a good old hit off the cig (if you dnt regularly smoke and are trying this make sure you inhale) and hold it in for the normal time then hold the tissue against your mouth and blow through it. nothing but a clear moist spot is usually there.
3. now take a puff off a cig and chipmonk it (hold it in you mouth) do not inhale this time now blow it through a different tissue. you end up with a brown spot on the napkin.the brown spot i was told was tar and gets caught in your lungs building up
found a video that shows it: http://www.sumo.tv/video/2986098
when i tried my inhale was clear and the one from my mouth was much fainter.

That's a great and wonderful test, but I bet it hasn't made a single person stop smoking.
Why don't people understand that smokers KNOW how bad it is for them?
I love it when people tell me "smoking will kill you". I reply with random things, like "so will driving" etc.

hahah. i said something like we will all die someday to my dad and he just full out slapped me across my face. only time he has ever hit me besides like 8 year old spankings.
-
Why did he slap you?Does he think he won't die someday?

listen up son, Im an active proponnent of legalization of mary jane, shes my favorite girl!Iv tried it, Iv smoked more cannibis than you and your entire family in thier car weight. Im an old stone master, Iv smoked it for more than half of my life, and most certainly more than the total number of years youv been alive.there is repercussions though, and being young and dumb and fucking with developing brain cells is one of em. as is the risk of cancer and thats what we are talking about here, 10 smokes = 1 jay in terms of damage it does to your lungs. Its an adult toy, like alchohol, not for kids that are still developing. dont lecture me on try it once and what the outcome is, I alrady fucking know.

and I agree, MOSTLY harmelss. pending the person who smokes it and predisposed reactions. Most people would have no ill effects from it. especially not from a single experience but there is a small percentage of the population that would have some sort of reaction and a regular smoker takes the same risks and someone who smokes ciggerttes.
Im all for smoking the salad with my dinner, but lets be realistic there is some harful effects of it, more especially over long term use. -
no he slapped me for the cheeky response to a well founded concern.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=how+many+cigarettes+equal+one+joint&btnG=Search
All the ones I looked at there say 1 J = 5 Cigs
Either way, the fact still remains: Weed kicks ass and is infinitely better than cigarettes.
In other news: I'm about to go outside and smoke "5 cigarettes", and they will be the best "5 cigarettes" I ever smoked.

Although yes, I should have said mostly harmless, but one joint does not equal damage wise to 10 cigarettes. This was a myth created by the misrepresentation of studies performed by Dr. Donald Tashkin of the University of California, Los Angeles. He found that daily pot smokers seemed to experience a "mild but significant" increase in airflow resistance in the large airways compared to those seen in persons smoking 16 cigarettes per day.[1]What the people who push this myth fail to mention is that the study involved many other tests, most of which Cannabis outperformed tobacco. The more widely accepted estimate is that marijuana smokers consume four times as much carcinogenic tar as cigarettes smokers per weight smoked.[2] But the average joint only contains about 0.4 grams of marijuana, less than half the weight of a cigarette, so 1 joint is really only equal to about 2 cigarettes in terms of carcinogenic tar. Although its hard to compare tobacco and cannabis as they attack different parts of the lungs. While pot goes for the larger airways, tobacco tends to penetrate to the smaller, peripheral passageways of the lungs causing more damage such as emphysema.[3]Studies of marijuana have shown that it has the capability to cause lung cancer but there has of yet been 0 cases. The biggest health risk of marijuana is injury, usually caused by accidents as a result of the effects of pot (degradation of short-term memory, concentration, judgement, and coordination at complex tasks including driving).[4] Quote:1 - D.
