Been surfing the forums for a few years now, and I finally have a legitimate question to ask. When I use a tampon, the first or second time I use it while on my period, I experience a moderate amount of pain both while it is being inserted, and then in my lower abdomen for several minutes after it is inserted. This only happens on the first time, and afterwards is a great deal easier. Could this be in any way related to my irregular periods? I have a very irregular pattern (usually I go between 4-7 months without getting a period, and when I do get it, I go for about two weeks, stop for a week, and then go for another two weeks.) I have been to the doctor before for the irregular period, because it has been heavy to the point of me becoming anemic in the past. She reccomended a low dosage of birth control pills, which I have to admit, I only take when I'm on my period. (it's nice not to have it every month, ya know? lol) Also- could it have anything to do with the fact that I'm a virgin? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Pain when using tampon

Hey there, and welcome aboard the boards! I believe the "pain" isn't really pain, but more like pressure (unless this pain you feel is really sharp or painful). It's a little tough slipping a tampon inside your vagina because your vagina walls are touching each other. To make it easier, you can wet or lubricate yourself or the tampon to help slide it in. And the pressure you feel inside could either be simple bloating or just the new feeling of a fresh tampon. This has nothing to do with you being a virgin. But irregular periods are a wacky thing. I had irregular periods just like you until I decided to get on birth control to make myself regular (and I began having sex). I noticed how much easier it is with birth control, like actually knowing when my period will come and the cramps and stuff have lessen.I just hope this help in some way.

Thanks, this really helped me out. I didn't realize that if I stayed on the birth control that it would lessen the cramps- because I get them so bad sometimes I have to call in sick! Again, I really appreciate the help.
