Parents invoking religious right to not have children vaccinated Should religious rights trump public health/safety?

Religion vs. vaccination
-
I think the article points out that religeon is just used as an excuse to skip vaccination because of personal convictions, so your question is a bit misleading.I'm kind of on the fence with this. If you are truly a free person, how can anyone force you to receive innoculations? Since there is a slight slight risk of complications, who are you to make me take that risk?Of course, people who do refuse these common immunization, I think, are total dumbasses.
-
This fear is out of ignorance of the way a vaccine works. I bet that most of the people who make excuses to opt out their child out of vaccinations don't know how they even work and did no study before making the decision, which is just stupid with the amount of resources we have today. Not only do they put their own children at risk, but they put the children of other people at risk as well. Also, I thought they didn't immunize chicken pox, they didn't ten years ago. When did it start being immunized?
-
The chicken pox vaccine is relatively new. I remember seeing/talking about it at my childrens doctors office maybe 5 yrs back.
-
I meant to say religious rights (which sounds weird too, but I can't think of another word), not freedom. I'll change it.
-
Again the article is not about religion. People are using religion as a cop-out to avoid vaccinations. Quote: claiming religious exemptions to avoid vaccinating their children when the real reason may be skepticism of the shots or concern they can cause other illnesses.
-
My concern has no basis in religion...but rather freedom. If they can force you to be injected with a vaccine, they can force a lot of other things on you, too. It's the same freedom of choice that's in question over the issue of abortion. If people have a choice there, they should also have a choice when it comes to being vaccinated.
-
I think if these people do not want to immunize thier children, they should home school them. And the chicken pox vaccine came about in 1995.

This is true...But I think the well fair and the safety of the children is a hell of a lot more important.... but that's just me

But why wouldn't you get vaccinated, or get your children vaccinated? Do your Pro-Life beliefs stretch out to the right to life of a virus?

"Why" has nothing to do with it. I probably would have my kids vaccinated. The point is that the government has no business telling me what to do in this area. My children are my concern, and none of their business. If a new plague broke out and my child was identified as a carrier, that'd be a different story...this is not the case here. I refuse to trade away my freedom in the name of security...it's just not worth it.

The argument is that it might cause more promiscuity. I think it's a lame excuse especially when you dont have to tell your child what it's for. Just like all other shots at school, you HAVE to do it. This isn't about freedom, it's about protection. If there were an HIV vaccine, who would opt out of it, the extreme right? People keep pretending the problem doesn't exist, but when it comes knocking on their door, they become the biggest hypocritical advocates because it's "their little girl." Fuck them. Why keep pretending the word vagina and penis don't exist? And yes, your little girl might be out there right now slurping on cock. Surprised?
-
The argument is that it might cause more promiscuity. Did you go off on a tangent or something. I don't understand what you're talking about.
-
"Why" has everything to do with it. Why does the Government feel they need to take control of the situation? Why would people NOT give their children the vaccination? A vaccination is nothing like an abortion, it is designed 100% to save lives. It has its risks, but so does everything else in this world! My parents were amazed to find out that a spoon can rip right through my lower lip!

After all, we'd be better protected, right? Of course we wouldn't have much freedom, would we. You see, it all depends on where one is willing to draw the line. If it's really worth doing, most people will listen to the logical explanation. If it's forced on you, there are probably other reasons involved...like getting you used to having things forced on you. It's the freedoms of the future they might try and take away that concern me, as they should everybody...unless you don't mind being in a room all alone for the rest of your life.

My bad. I didnt read the OG post article. Is there a vaccine against being a dumbass?
I ASSumed the article was about the HPV vaccine for girls. I need to be sedated.
-
Nope sorry. Once a dumbass... always a dumbass.

I'm S.O.L., I'm up Shit Creek without a paddle, I'm royaly screwed, I'm...you get the point.

You're comparing something living one's life in a room to doing something that doesn't take much time to do and has huge benefits for everyone in the community. The freedom to opt out of vaccinations can infringe on other people's right to life, because a person who opts out of a vaccination could potentially catch it and spread it to someone else, and it could have life-last/ending effects on that person. You'd be surprised at how many people won't listen to the logical explanation. Also, the government is more focused on the now than the future in the U.S. (except for global warming and the low amount of fossil fuels). They aren't thinking about taking away rights far into the future, considering they probably will be out of office.
