Hello.I need to know what are some healthy foods. I've noticed I've been eating way too much junk food; I know it's not good for me but it's delicious . I've been trying to eat a lot of fruits. At work, I try to eat apples and pears instead of candy or sugary snacks. When I get home, I eat some pasta and fish as well as some apple tart. I've replaced anything sugary with honey. I've also been eating a lot of bell pepper; they give 291.3% of vitamin C and 104.9% of Vitamin A. I have found out that kale - boiled - gives 1327.6% of Vitamin K. How could I implement this into my food?

Welcome to A2A, Circa!A good variety of foods, rather than concentrating on particular fad foods, is probably healthiest. Vegetables are good. Honey is probably no better than sugar, but a bit is no problem.

Gives more Iron or copper or magnesium? How can you distinguish?

But you need little fat and oils don't you? What type of oils are you talking about? Vegetable oil, cooking oil etc.?

Hrm...You do need some.I would tell you to look at the nutritional bars on the package before buying it, it tells you how much fat is in it, those are not good for you. Fats and Oils are a group on the Food Pyramid, Im not certain what types.

Different foods are good (or bad) in different ways. You need the vitamins and the essential minerals, and one can't replace another. You can't make up for a deficiency in Vitamin A by having more Vitamin C, for example. You can't make up for a deficiency in iron by having more copper. This is why a variety of foods is best.Problems generally arise from eating too much of one type of food or not enough of another. In the West, the problem is generally too many calories (from fats or carbohydrate) with not enough vitamins and minerals and fibre.

So, basically, I have to balance to get everything in equal portions - like iron, copper, the Vitamins and all that stuff?
Boy, I better quit smoking now  :fearful: !
-
No, not equal portions. You can find suggestions here. But the body can cope with remarkable variations in diet.
Stopping smoking is probably the single biggest thing you can do to help your health.
-
This seems to be very complicated . Can I just eat whatever is healthy?
-
Eating healthy is a lot harder than most people think. I've given people a plan for a near perfect diet, but it is so high maintinence few people keep it up.What I find better is to give people some simple, but large changes, and if in 3 months they're still interested in improving it more I'll give them more advice. Some of these simple changes are;Eat wholegrains. Wholegrain bread, pasta, brown rice, etc.Only eat cereals with MORE potassium than sodium. This is a very simple technique to working out how proceeded a cereal is. If the they do not list the potassium in the nutrion panel it is because it is so low they don't want to show people.Take a GOOD multivitamin. I recommend Swisse.Eat lean meats. This means cutting the fat off meat before you cook it.Finally, teach yourself. Learn to read labels, and glance at everything you eat. You'll soon start to get a feel for what contains what, and how much total energy. Then you can make your own decisions.Oh yeah, take a niacin supplement before you drink alcohol.

I'll try that. I'm not trying to gain or lose weight anyway, I just want to remain healthier for my self.Or maybe I'll become a model in the future??

I actually bookmarked your site. I've read a few articles that gave me some good insight.I'll try to find the one article about energy input and output. It has some math and physics, but not complicated.

It's not meant to be complicated. I don't think you have to have the perfect diet. You can vary it enormously and still be just as healthy. If you eat mainly fruits, whole grains, vegetables and lean meat you should be fine. Just don't eat the same thing all the time.

LOL, I never really thought about that before, but I can't think of a SINGLE store that that isn't true in! Minus the endcaps, it is a way to keep the kids from seeing the junk they are missing too!
