I am 13 years old, bout 179 lbs, and about 5'9 and im trying out wrestling for my first time. Is this the weight class i should be in? If not, what weight should i try to cut down too? and how should i cut down (if needed to), thanks a lot everybody!
I can tell you never wrestled :p
wou always want to bea few pounds short of the limit for your class.
Its easier to gain a few pounds to move up a class than it is to drop 5 lbs an hour before a match.
then after a wiegh in, drink water to gain it back and the strength that you lost sweating it out dressed in 4 pairs of sweats running 3 miles on a treadmill to sweat it off and leaving you weak and sick. I did it for 4 years of HS wrestling.
strength and speed accounts for 80% of the sport, outside of skill and the skill you have to learn, hes jsut starting so needs to focus on that and gaining strength and technique.
Go talk to your coach, he is the guy that should be telling you what class you need to be in if yuor borderline between two.
Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.
