Questions about a GED
-
Getting your GED is going to be tough. That is, if you're ready to settle down and give 100% of your time and energy. Going back to school is not easy. You need to find an adult school that offers GED classes that prepare you for the test. I believe they will also give you practice tests to help you. In the meantime, save some money. In some schools, they will charge you to take the real GED test.I'm not sure what more I can say since you're already seen some schools. Not sure what more you need...

In my area (North Carolina), we have something a technical college does, called Wake Tech Adult Education Center. Depending on how many credits you still need in high school, you can either get a real diploma or simply take the GED (they probably offer classes, but I was told I could just take the GED if I was confident I could do it). As far as I know it's free, too.You may want to see if you have something like that in your area

what really IS the GED? is it like the high school exit exam? cause i took a practice exit exam and i passed, and my principle even suggested that i take the GED since i dont always attend school, and to be frank, i dont really like it...

GED is no different than a diploma. GED is for people who didn't finish high school. They both mean that you have proficient common knowledge.Either way, you need to study your ass off.

What is GED? http://www.ccsf.edu/Services/GED/ged.htmLike that link says, adults who never graduated high school can get their GED and go on to college. When kids take it, it's usually because they dropped out and want to get back into education or are just tired of going through school (like you, I'm guessing)

Of course, finishing actual high school will show colleges and future employers that you are the kind of person that is able to stick with something and see it to the end whether you like it or not, instead of searching for the easiest way out. They might think you are the kind of person who would skip some important paperwork simply to close a good deal or something of that sort—a decision that could legally come back to seriously bite them in the ass.I still think it is better to finish high school. Look if your state has a program that allows you to go to actual college classes at an actual college and count the credit back toward your high school. This was my solution to wanting an early out from high school, and the best part is that in my state, the government picks up the ENTIRE bill (minus any room and boarding costs). Then you will have high school and college credit when you graduate with a real diploma, and you will feel good standing with the rest of your class. whispers (By the way, intro college classes are easier than upper-level high school courses )

see, but thats the thing, im going into realestate when i turn 18, (almost in exactly 1 year) its going to be a solo project and im going to do what my grandfather did... since i was 13 my mom took me to millionaire mind intensive meetings, and showed me great buisness propositions that coulda changed our lives... but she could never do it because of her work load... so what i plan on doing, is moving to texas when im 18 buying propertys, flipping them, and sell them, and continue this process till im wealthy enough to just own alot of propertys and rent them out... and then expand from where im at...i dont plan on attending college at this time, maybe in my twentys to study other languages, and computers as well as music.as far as high school goes, my classes are boring, and i know/can figure out easily everything there talking about... my english teacher suggested i take honors classes, but i just dont want to goto school, i feel that im wasting my time when i can be preparing myself for the real estate "mission" im going to go on...growing up the way that i did has given me this type of thinking, i watched my mom work 12-14 hour days, and raise 3 kids by herself, shes 43 now and is no where near retirement, and she is still working 12 hour days... shes worked like that for over 25 years!if i can force myself, and just run hard and do my real estate thing for 2 years straight, i should make enough money to retire and just invest in my other ideas... school is great and i love learning, but at this time its... i guess... not on my agenda, but i did promise my mother that i would get at LEAST a GED...

You can't attend college without a high school diploma or GED.Quote:

I know you're just a kid but you have no idea how hard it's going to be for you to grow up and then go back to school. You do realize getting your GED means YOU HAVE TO GO TO SCHOOL. You can't cheat around your education. Either you go to school or don't.As for your real estate mission, good luck.

Wow, that explains your attitude toward everything pretty good.As for your little mission... let us know how that works out. I think it's going to be a little harder than you imagine it, but since you know better than all of us, you won't listen to reasoning. So just, good luck.

So just, good luck. uhh, who said that i dont listen to reasoning? i listen to everything you guys/girls tell me, i may not agree with it but im not an ass about it... and i took ALOT of advice ineligible gave me from before (i was a member here like 2 years ago) as well as from other people... and about my mission that im going to do, i understand the difficulties which is why im making a plan, ive studied up on it, ive read books, im building my credit so that when i get out there loans wont be so difficult to obtain... my grandfather accumulated over 750,000 dollars in the 60's over a time frame of 5 years (if you total the money and take into account the times, thats prolly a couple of million in this day in age)...i know what i want to do is very how do you say... unlikely, but its not impossible, and any possibility that presents itself, im going to jump on it... i dont want to seem like an asshole, ive already gotten into 1 dispute since i joined today... ive taken in everybodies advice, but if your telling me to do something that i just cant, and wont do, dont get upset... not once have i said that i know any more than anybody hear about anything... confucious said, he who knows everything, knows nothing. He who knows nothing, knows everything.meaning, if i went around saying that i know everything, then i would never learn anything new... but if i went around asking how, and why, and other questions, i'd learn... i may have one way of looking at things, but learning somebody elses way is even better... learning anything new is always a beautiful thing.

First and foremost, if you'd like to insult me some more, please show everyone here on the boards what you say, instead of hiding behind PMs. We'd all love to hear what you have to say.> in the 60'sI hope you realize that pretty much everything is different today. You're telling me that as an 18 year old who hasn't even graduated high school, you're going to somehow put some down payments on some houses and then sell them back? Sorry, but if I'm buying a house, I'm not going to buy it from an 18-year old, "hood" dropout. But hey, don't let me stop you from accomplishing your dreams.> and any possibility that presents itselfAnd how many possibilities do you think will present themself to you? Life doesn't really work that way.> i dont want to seem like an assholeDid you even read what you wrote in that PM you sent me? Because you could've fooled me there.> not once have i said that i know any more than anybody hear about anythingRemember the last question in your PM? The one where you ask me if I know anyone who's more intelligent than you?
-
first and foremost, if i have a problem with somebody, instead of 'bashing' them on a post, like some people... i'd rather settle it between the two of us, i dont plan on doing all of that without a high school diploma, i clearly stated that i want to get my ged, and that, that is what im going to pursue, also if your going to insult someone on a field that you know nothing about, when you go into real estate, "fix up" as some of us call it, you deal with a mortgage/real estate company, a group that you can buy houses from, and sell back to them quickly, you dont take it directly to the market, taxes would be extremely too high on selling the house, you would barely make any money...nearly all of my family is in carpentry, and possibilities come in all shapes and sizes, to you a run down junky house is just that, a run down junky house, to me, its land, its foundation, its a possibility of something GREAT.did you read what you wrote to me? seems like you provoked it, and now that some consequences followed your actions, your angry?yes i am intelligent, i admit that, but have i said that i know more than anyone here? or anyone period? as far as me being intelligent, i have papers of tests that were forced on me in the third grade that say that i am a genius and truly am grown past my years... now next time you have a problem with somebody, instead of posting something to incite anger to that person, why dont you sit back, think twice... formulate a response that lacks sarcasm and ignorance, then hit submit...... Thanks.
-
did you read what you wrote to me? seems like you provoked it, and now that some consequences followed your actions, your angry?Sorry, but it's easy to see that neither of us are angry, which is good. > but have i said that i know more than anyone here? or anyone period?Yes, you did, when you asked me if I knew anybody more intelligent than you? Do you not see how arrogant that sounds?I'm glad you're a genius, congratulations. That really doesn't make you any better than anyone else, but that may be hard to see from your pedestal up there.> instead of posting something to incite anger to that person, why dont you sit back, think twice... formulate a response that lacks sarcasm and ignorance, then hit submit...... Thanks. How ironic. Do you want me to start quoting your first PM to me?
-
im a bit agitated, not necessarily angry, and i dont see why we are arguing, you call me immature, i call you stupid, all in all we are both ignorant to keep this escapade continuing, now only are we probably wasting A2A's bandwidth, but we are taking up other peoples posts...can you just accept that i have different views than you, and i will... ugh, i will accept that your views do stray away from mine... just like everyone has a different tolerance/addiction level to drugs cigs and alcohol, every one has different views and opinions... and its our right to be able to have them...as i would normally say, can we juss squash dis?
-
Quote:as i would normally say, can we juss squash dis? A great idea! Let's try to help someone instead of this petty bantering.

I don't know why you AREN'T taking honors classes, at least in some fields it would probably be very wise, given what you are going into (like geometry). Also, you should consider being an apprentice of sorts for a couple of flips, just so you know some tricks of the trade... And I want to know how flipping houses is interesting... Because honestly, that sounds like the most boring job in the world to me, and it's also hard work. I was just wondering, other than the money, why you choose house flipping. And if it IS just the money you are going for, why don't you choose other jobs, like a doctor or even going into the military (which has its own benefits).

His grandpa made a small fortune 40 years ago, and he thinks he can do the same today.

sighsLook.. not to knock you man... but, well.. your out of your league. I hate to make assumptions but, I can't help but, assuming you have no idea how far off the track you are. #1 problem? you have a plan. .. guess what... plans have too many variables.. it is so easy for a plan to crash and burn off of one small.. small little factor.#2. Your putting too much faith in a GED without further education. I don't care what ANYONE says. the truth is it is probably harder to get a GED but, unless you plan on furthering your education past that GED your gunna get looked down upon for not having a high school diploma. Now you can say "oh thats just you saying that" but, the simple truth is personal views come into play alot more then you would think and employers sadly have personal views. The simplest way I can phrase it is like this. If your too lazy to get a highschool diploma how do you plan on getting a GED which is more work?.I'm probably not going to convience you to change your mind however, I can assure you pride always comes before the fall.
