I'm in my early twenties and I've been overweight for nearly 5 years now. Bordering on obese these days. I know what all I'm doing wrong: eating too much junk food, no exercise and all that. I hate the fat girl comments that are constantly directed at me. I need to get back in shape. But I simply can't seem to work up the energy to do anything, to change anything radically. It's like I can't break this habit of being fat. How do I change this?Any comments, advice, remarks, views are welcome.

People shouldn't comment about another person's physical appearance. You need to motivate yourself and eat more healthy. Try making few changes at a time. Go for healthier options, like choosing grilled meat instead of fried, drinking water or unsweetened juice instead of soda, read the labels of food you eat and opt for those which have more nutritional value than trans-fat/sugar/sodium content. As for exercise, well just put on some music you like and dance to it for 10 mins everyday. It's just a starting point and also it's lots of fun. You also use the stairs instead of elevators, walk to the stores to buy things instead of going by car. If you have a pet dog, taking it for a walk and playing with in the park is also a good and fun activity. These are small starting points for you to motivate yourself, get healthy and be active. Please don't care about what those people comment. No matter what a person's appearance is, it's the heart that's more important. Be confident and don't let negative comments affect you. Best of luck.

Saya, I really appreciate you comments, thanks. I like the idea of dancing around for 10 minutes every day.I can't control people commenting on my appearance, the only thing I can do is to loose weight. My main problem besides being a lazy bum is that I actually love greasy junk food. And most of the time I eat too much. I know it's unhealthy, but like an addict I get these cravings and I break down and give in. Anyway, I'm really going to this a try. Let's see how thing work out.

Good luck, wanderer!
If you avoid greasy foods and fried foods, and get your feelings of satiety from protein instead of fat, it will be easier to lose weight. -

Protein will make you feel full after eating fewer calories than fat or carbohydrate. That's why the Atkins diet works better than most, though Atkins has too much fat and goes overboard on cutting out carbohydrates. If you eat a lot of lean meat or pulses it will help.

I know it's unhealthy, but like an addict I get these cravings and I break down and give in. Here is another idea and I hope it will help you. Take healthy meals, non-greasy ones and eat your regular greasy meal just once in day till you get used to eating non-greasy foods. Or, take a non greasy healthy meal and at the end of your meal take one serving of any greasy food you like. It will be a tiny reward for putting in effort to change your diet and life sytle. It will help you to change your habits gradually and you will not crave or give in to your junk food addiction. Some more tips: Eat your meals slowly. Avoid eating/snacking when you watch TV, read books or use your computer. Try drinking a glass of water/unsweetened natural fruit juice (apple or grape) 5-10 minutes before each meal.Try to add 10 more minutes of dancing after 1 week, 10 more after another week. You can also choose any other fun activities to do which burn calories.

Thanks, Saya and ineligible. These are some really good suggestions, incorporating more protein in my diet, and not eating while watching TV. I'm also trying not to eat out more than once a week. Let's see how these changes work out.
