What can it mean if your pap comes back irregular more than once???Ive tried researching it .. and couldnt understand what my doctor meant.Help?
-
Irregular Pap
-
Well, I could speculate, but it probably wouldn't mean much. They probably see abnormal cell growth and want to determine what it is.
-
Go in more tests
-
I agree with Sexpert, we can only speculate. I know you said you didn't understand but what did your doctor say? Also, did you do anything before the exam that may have interfered with the results (had sexual intercourse or used vaginal cream/gel)?
-
Yeah.. i had irregular cells in both of my paps.I guess it wasnt an irregular "pap".. it was the "cells"I know there are a few things it could be.. one being cervical cancer.. another could cause me to not be able to have children
-
Or it could be nothing.
-
I hope so!
-
Plus you're still young, which means there's a higher chance of clearing it permanently.
-
Here's hoping for the best!
-
thanks guys:)
-
Chances are it's HPV which often causes abnormal PAP's especially since you are young.
-
can you explain to me what exactly hpv is?
-
Human Papilloma Virus.
Some strains cause genital warts.. many others don't but cause abnormal PAP's...
-
well i havent had any issues with genital warts. So i guess im lucky so far
-
You don't have to have warts to have HPV... Only a few strains of HPV casue warts. Many others don't. Some cause cancer. I just had my daughter(15) get her first booster of Gardasil. A vaccine against a few of the more common and dangerous strains of HPV.HPV infections are quite high. I'm sure someone can look up the statistics..
-
i have my second shot of gardasil on the 4th
-
That's good!! However, you never really said what your doctor said and what he is doing about it.
-
She is making me come in for more tests
-
I had two "irregular" paps before. The first one revealed I had LGSL, which is basically cancer causing cells. Here is some info: http://www.medfriendly.com/lowgradesquamousintraepitheliallesion.html#diagnose
They waited about 3 months and I had another pap which showed it got worse. I then had to have the cells frozen off. And I haven't had an abnormal pap since. I think you mentioned you had irregular cells, I'm guessing this is what your doctor meant.
Good luck.

There are treatments varying from freezing the area of the cervix to actually surgically removing the area. The choice is made after all the different types of tests reveal how severe the lesions are. The treatments are successful but must be done to be effective. Do not put off the testing or the treatment since the longer it is ignored, the more the areas grow...Take care of it!K
