I really didn’t want to make a post about this, but I figured what the heck, someone might know what it is! A couple of weeks ago (a little before Christmas time I think) my lips went pretty wonky on me; they became very swollen and puffy and it looked like they had tiny bumps all over them (like small pimples underneath the skin). At first I assumed that it was some sort of a cold sore, and while I put blistex on my lips for a little bit and it made them hurt less (I guess because it kept my lips moist) it only seemed to make them get worse. Well I started using vaseline and it eventually just went away; I don’t know what in the world this is!! Well guess what, I woke up this morning and it’s happened again!! They really don’t seem to be true blisters or anything (and they really weren’t last time), and vaseline seems to help more than anything I’ve tried, but what’s really bothering me is I can’t figure out if it’s some form of a cold sore or if I’m having an allergic reaction to something or what. Has anyone else had something like this before?
-
Cold sore maybe?
-
Before I finished reading you post I started thinking allergic reaction. Are you using a different lipstick or lip gloss? If it continues hun I would see a doctor about it.
-
It sounds like an allergy to me. I've never heard of cold sore doing shit like that.Either that or you caught something from Eddie when he went down to Texas.
-
Well that’s what I assumed at first, but then I really got to thinking about it and I haven’t worn anything new (make-up wise) nor have I ate or drank anything different than I normally do (I don't think ).I mean it just went away last time, so I’m hoping it will this time! crosses fingers, eyes, and toes My lips are just swollen and puffy and it looks like tiny, tiny pimples beneath the skin, but they’re not actually pimples or anything, they’re more like bumps or something. It's really weird... They really don't hurt (meaning my lips) unless they get really dry, so I make sure I keep lots of vaseline on them and then they feel fine.

I am guessing the small pimple things are Fordyce Spots of the mouth, which is normal and almost everyone has them... some just more than others. Is it possible there is an infection of the Fordyce spots??

Well, I am STILL sticking to that allery thought. You can become allergic to something you have used/eaten for years. My allergy like that is Ibuprofen. Took it for years then one day my eyes swelled up and I looked like one of those bubbly goldfish who can't hardly swim...When it is facial swelling it gets kind of scary though because it seems SO close to the throat...
-
I just don't know, I mean how can I go about finding out what it would be if it were an allergic reaction?
-
Sounds like an allergic reaction to me too. My son broke out in a bad rash and hives a few months ago. The doctor said that the body can turn on you out of the blue. The doc said he became allergic to oranges(citrus) in his 30's... go figure.
You have to keep a ledger of EVERYTHING you eat. The doc said, 50% of the time people never pinpoint the allergy.
-
Well I'll make a log of everything I eat and drink today and see where it goes from there...
Is there any form of allergy test that I can get to see what exactly I'm allergic to? As far as I know I've never been allergic to anything (food, soaps of any kind, drinks, ect) except for pollens, ragweed - your basic sinus stuff.
-
I wish $ weren't such an issue for ya. They can do a skin test to see if it is amongst the common allergies.
But, you just start keeping a diary of what you do, eat, bathe with, and when...and usually the allergic reaction happens shortly after exposure.
-
Yuppers a ledger is a very good idea. I had the skin allergy testing a while ago and found out I was allergic to a lot of stuff I had no clue about; a lot of the items I ate all the time! Even found out I was deathly allergic to Salmon, good thing I never tried it! heheKeep us in formed Katie!!

I'm really thinking that I had an allergic reaction to something that I drank because the only unusual thing that I had was a Sunny D orange juice (I only drink it every once in a great while) and then WHAM, I've got nappy looking lips for a day or two. I really hope that that's not it though, I LOVE orange juice! pout

Orange Juice? I hope you aren't calling Sunny D orange juice...CONTAINS: WATER, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP AND 2% OR LESS OF EACH OF THE FOLLOWING: CONCENTRATED JUICES (ORANGE, TANGERINE, APPLE, LIME, GRAPEFRUIT), CITRIC ACID, ASCORBIC ACID (VITAMIN C), THIAMIN HYDROCHLORIDE (VITAMIN B1), NATURAL FLAVORS, MODIFIED CORNSTARCH, CANOLA OIL, SODIUM CITRATE, CELLULOSE GUM, XANTHAN GUM, SODIUM HEXAMETAPHOSPHATE, SODIUM BENZOATE TO PROTECT FLAVOR, YELLOW #5, YELLOW #6.You might be allergic to the dye.

Sunny D makes me sick everytime I drink it. I know a lot of people actually that have some type of negative reaction to Sunny D. Nasty stuff!

Quote:Orange Juice? I hope you aren't calling Sunny D orange juice... Yeah, I've always called Sunny D orange juice, even though I know it's really not lol It's just weird because I've never had a problem drinking it (I've drank it all my life), unless they've changed something in it, or my body just decided that it's not something I need to drink.... which completely sucks! Grrr
-
Yeah, it makes me feel sick after I drink it too...
