So, last week I ordered a DVD set from Columbia House. I have never ordered anything online before. I got a confirmation email that said my payment went through and it would be shipped shortly.Well, today I get an email saying it is out of stock and they will ship it "soon" and if they do not get the stock in before 1/14/08, they will refund my money and cancel the order. So, i'm thinking I must have crappy luck and they must have ran out of stock the day I ordered it. I go to thier website and they are still advertising it as if it is instock. WTF? Is that even legal? I wouldn't be mad if I got it after Christmas, I'm just mad that they are still advertising it like they have it in stock. Does this happen often when buying things online?

They don't provide a phone number, only an email. I googled it and found a number, but could never reach a 'live' person. I sent an email, but I doubt I will hear anything back.

[quote] I go to thier website and they are still advertising it as if it is instock. WTF? Is that even legal? [/quoteUnfortunately, yes. They are in the business of selling DVD's, and the fact that you have to wait a little really isn't a concern to them. Fortunately, however, there is federal law that reqires them to at least offer a refund if the product is going to be delayed longer than that allowed in law. I think the period is 30 days.

Those bastards! sigh The email did say they would refund my money if I didn't recieve it by January 14th. Do you know if I can cancel my order and get a refund?
