how do you know if you have it? I seem to be pushing really important people away from me, friend has seen a complete change in me and I'm starting to feel it myself and I hate it. Is there anyway to change to, I feel to scared to ask anyone in real life or talk about it...

Depression

First off, it's not something to feel ashamed of. It's chemical imbalance in the brain, you have no control over that. There are all different kinds of depression. Some lasting a short time and others that plague people for life. What it typically does is effect how you view the world, it distorts it. For instance, some small set back that pops up, which the healthy brain would deal with and dismiss, the depressed brain blows it out proportion and make it seem worse than it is. Further, the depressed brain may be incapable of dealing with the mundane problem. All this can culminate into feeling of persecution, feeling like the world is against you, or you can't catch a break, or everybody else gets by easy in life, or sadness and general malaise at how things have turned out, or sadness and malaise without reason (I just went through that one myself), or feeling of inadequacy, or any number of or combination of if not all of the above, the list goes on and on.Depression is not healthy and is not an indicator of mental weakness or lack of fortitude. Simply saying I'm going to look at the world in a different way will do nothing, by itself, to change the reality of being afflicted by it, no more than will just having positive thoughts, by themselves, affect the growth rate of a cancer. To be properly diagnosed you need to see a doctor. It's really not a big deal and at least by my experiences nothing like what you see on the television. I would strongly encourage you to seek out some mental health professional who can help you with this. There is nothing bad about it at all and if they can help... well life is far to short to go through it miserable. Keep in mind just cause you see a mental health professional is no sign that you will be automatically put on meds either. Just talking things out with a disinterested party may be enough for you. If you did get put on meds more than likely you wouldn't have to be on them forever as the depression you may be experiencing is a new development in your life. If you take away nothing else from this please remember this, LIFE IS TO SHORT TO GO THROUGH UNHAPPY. If you can do something about don't let some stupid societal shame or prejudice keep you from it.
