I'm a girl and i found out today that i have a yeast infection. My boyfriend hasn't had any symptoms.I want him to get treated just in case, however, last time he went to a doctor he was tested for chlamydia and the doctor put a cotton swab in his penis--He didn't really like that. Is testing for yeast infection in men done by putting a cotton swab in a penis?

Yeast infection diagnosis?

Treatment for men and women is usually by over-the-counter topical cream. I think the systemic medication that needs a prescription is a bit over-the-top. Doctors rarely test for it - it's simpler, if the symptoms suggest it, to go straight into treatment and see if it works, since the treatment is harmless and not too expensive. If they did test for it, they'd do a swab on the outside of the penis only. The dreaded urethral swab is only for gonorrhoea, chlamydia and other forms of urethritis. Both of you should take the treatment. He can use your cream and rub it on the outside of his penis.

I'm glad that it's a different test! I will call the doctor's office and ask about how much it would cost for him to come in and get a prescription of a pill like the one I took to cure my yeast infection. Though I'm not sure if there is a pill for men to take. My pill is called fluconazole and it is "the easy oral cure for most vaginal yeast infections." I hope there is one for men.but if that is too expensive or there is no such thing as a pill for guys to take... If it is harmless and not too expensive to buy an over the counter topical cream then I will go ahead and buy it for my boyfriend. I can't share any topical cream with him because the doctor prescribed me a pill. thankyou everyone for your help
