I was going to say the same thing, but I was afraid the thread would get locked for voicing my opinion

You really just have to face the fact that the way you are living today will be high class considered with the way you will live tomorrow. All of the top nations in the world (economically) are giving all of their jobs and money away to other countries which has created today's world economy. Canada, the U.S., all countries don't really have their own economies any more compared to 30-50 years ago, their economies belong to the world now as with just about every country. As you make less money and can't afford gas any more, someone else in some other country is making more money than they used to and they are able to afford a little bit more. Soon, poverty will be even higher in the U.S. and lower everywhere else. On the bright side, other people are being enabled to buy their own food now. On the negative side, your will probably never again see the luxurious life you have right now ever again.
Oil prices don't really help, either. There is plenty of oil out there, so don't be fooled when someone says that we need to save oil not to mention there is a crapload of oil in North America that the EPA has prevented from being drilled, and they have limited the number of oil refineries in the U.S. so a lot of our oil has to be refined elsewhere which is costing more in the shipping department. It's the environment or your lifestyle, folks, and your vote has been cast whether you voted the way you wanted to or not. We all know the truth: oil execs just want more money. Unfortunately, they are charging too much money and they make more money than they can spend. At $60-70 a barrel they can afford everything and still make a huge profit. At $100 dollars a barrel they can't spend their money fast enough. They can't open research facilities fast enough, build oil drills fast enough, they are making more money than they can even use. Well, I'm going to stop here so that I can get to bed tonight. Sorry for the off-topic ranting.

I don't think US oil executives can be accused of forcing prices up, when nearly all the world's oil comes from outside the US.
It's largely supply and demand. Supply is down because Iraq's production remains low. Demand will, in the medium term, rise and rise as Asia becomes wealthier. Up until now, the world's oil has been mostly consumed by North America and Europe. Now it will have to be shared with a much larger percentage of the world's population, and it's going to be painful.

And that's why I have a 4-cylinder and a transit pass.
