Hi Everyone!! I hope you're OK.This is a serious post. It has to do with a GUT feeling I have regarding what I believe is a very real possibility of what MIGHT happen if it appears as though Senator Barack Obama will be the next President of the United States. What I'm about to share with you has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not Senator Obama would make a good President. In fact - what I'm about to say has nothing to do with him at all. At least not insofar as WHO he IS as a person. This is not a character assassination. But it is about an assassination all the same. I am almost overwhelmed with the FEELING that IF it looks as though Senator Barack Obama will be the next President - he will be shot and [Quite possibly] killed by an American who believes that it is his 'duty' to keep a 'black man' from calling the White House 'home'. I believe that - as I write this very message - there are people in the U.S. [Perhaps even groups of people] who are playing a 'waiting game' to see just how 'close' Senator Obama can get to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. And IF it looks as though Senator Obama will be the next President - someone from somewhere will do something in an attempt to keep that from happening. My GUT tells me that the attempt will be successful. I actually find this gut feeling to be quite disturbing. Which is why I basically kept it to myself. [Out of my concern NOT to sound like alarmist] But lately - after finding the courage to share these thought with a few people - I now realize that I'm not alone. Other people feel the same way. It is a genuine concern. And beyond the assassination [Or attempted assassination] of Senator Obama comes the fear of some very real, and very tragic consequences. [Beyond the death - or near death - of the Senator himself] His death would spark the powder keg known politely as America's poor race relations. Riots would break out all over the U.S. and many parts of many cities would literally burn. Think Rodney King's 'L.A. Riots' all over America. Very scary. And very possible. According to an article on the MSNBC website dated May 3rd, 2007 - "The Secret Service said Thursday that Senator Barack Obama was being placed under their protection, the earliest ever for a presidential candidate. Officials said Obama had requested the protection." And on The Larry King Show [A few years ago] Colin Powell and his wife Alma both discussed the fear for the safety of Colin Powell and the likelihood of Colin getting killed if he ran (and probably won) as the first 'black' candidate for the President of the United States.I hope I'm wrong. I really hope I'm wrong. But anyone who knows even a little bit of the history of the U.S. knows that there are indeed Americans who will not be happy [To say the least] with the idea of a 'black man' being the President of the United States. So unhappy with the idea - that they will do [Or at least TRY to do] something about it. GBH - Craig!!
-
President Barack Obama?! Maybe Not.
-
Not a reason for him not to run, though, Craig. If you don't do things regardless, you let the extremists win.
-
Yes, I hope he wins and i hope the extremist Americans who cant let go of centuries of pontless discrimination and racisim dont have there way, because frankly, i Like the guy, i think he would make a damnd good president. Heres to faild assationation plots, or better yet, no assasination plots!
-
Well even if you were right with that, Hillary runs a risk as a woman running at being killed. There has to be something behind it... JFK was CATHOLIC (the only CATHOLIC president at that) and he was assassinated. People are not used to things out of the norm happening. I really really hope that nothing does happen to either of them as candidates for the presidency.
(LOL sorry about that little screw up with jewish and catholic!)
-
what do you mean "even if you were right with that" what was i wrong about? Of course there is somethign behind it, racist, sexist, people who refuse to admit that white men are NOT the best damnd people on the planet, that there actualy might be someone BETTER than them out there. People have a tendancy to be idiots, not all the time, only when it matters, there is more than enough evidence in human history to suport that.

what about a black female president?HAHAHAHA yeah ok...
-
sounds exciting, I can hardly wait.

It's no doubt that there are some crazies out there. You guys should read this article I found a month or so ago.
_As Democratic presidential contender John Edwards fielded questions from a crowd of about 100 people in Elkader, Iowa (population 1,374) Friday night, he got one of those out-of-left-field queries for which a candidate needs his sharpest wits. An elderly man told Edwards that "something has been sticking in my craw" and explained that "a certain fella committed two murders in California and the jury found him not guilty. And all they said was, 'It's payback time.' How are you going to have that come out in this election to combat one of your competitors?"
Edwards seemed puzzled, as most people in the audience seemed to be. For mistreatment by white America, the man said.
"What do you want the president to do about that?" Edwards asked.
"How are you going to get that brought out in your campaign? Will the same thing happen? If he should become elected, you think Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Oprah Winfrey are going to let him forget about that and their obligation?" the man said, not identifying who he meant by "he" and "him."
"I'm still not sure what it is that you're asking," Edwards said, a bit uneasily._
It gets better...

Hi ClassyBlackWoman!!
I hope you're OK.
I think I understand exactly what that old man was asking. And I don't think his concerns are racist. [Ignorant perhaps - but not racist] Do you not think that it's true that many black Americans are assuming that life for them will get better IF Obama is elected President? And don't you think that people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpen [Among other black leaders] will EXPECT a black President to support any and all of THEIR 'causes'? I certainly do. Wasn't Obama already blasted for NOT showing obvious support for the so-called 'Jena-Six' situation? To assume that a black President will be supportive of every black issue is just as silly as it would be to assume that a white President would be supportive of every white issue. But I think there are black Americans who DO expect that a black President will be obviously supportive of every black concern. And I think the old man was worried that as President - Obama would be the President of black America and not the President of ALL Americans. It's a genuine concern that many people have - especially older Americans.
As for the 'pay back' comment that was made by some black Americans when O.J. was acquitted - I understand the fear that the old man might have that a black president will make life tougher for white Americans as a way to 'get even' [If you will] for all the the injustices that some 'whites' have done to 'blacks'. The old man was probably just worried that a black President would try to right all of the wrongs of the past.
IF Obama wants to become the next President [And I think he does!!] then it would serve him well to continue to emphasize the fact that he fully intends to be supportive of EVERY American. And that his support will be based on NEED and not on RACE.
It's the same advice I would give to Hillary Clinton. Just as Obama can NOT be seen as a President for black Americans - Clinton can not be seen as a President for female Americans. [If that makes sense]
GREAT BIG HUG
Craig!! -
I've actually had the same gut feeling Craig so I get what you are saying. I have the same fears for Clinton as well. I truly thing America is in for a first, either first black president or first woman president. It’s an exciting time for America, at least it is for me. As for the actually election, I'm very much tossed up between Obama and Clinton; I like them both. It'll take more time and hearing them speak before I can make up my mind. They both bring a lot to the table.

It's equally possible, I think, for the same thing to happen to Clinton.
-
I love Obama! I don't think anything will happen to him. I just think they will beef up security alot more. Hell, Bush is still around...Obama will be fine.
-
That's why Colin Powell's wife never let him run for prez. Fear of being shot and killed.
-
I said montsh ago, and I stand by that statement that we will nto have the first black, or woman president jsut yet.
if voters allow it, and iM not so sure they are open minded enough to do that jsut yet, then the elected person will be shot before they can be sworn in.
This country is full of fucking morons and closed minded assholes with tiny brains. -
Not beliveing in god I wont pray for you to be wrong, I hope you are, but I have had the same feeling and said it many times since Clinton and Obama announced that they were indeed running.

-
I own many many MANY guns, youdont see me out assassinating anyone. Its not the guns, its the fucking criminals that are a problem. Remove teh guns and only the criminals have them. You think in a country that bans all guns that there isnt some very dangerous people runing around with guns?I much prefer having my guns to deal with fucking bastards who have thier own, but I do and always will prefer to use a blade.

Well... I just learned an interesting fact about dear Barack. Before he ran for the Senate, he was a diehard muslim. He changed religions so he could run for a spot in the Senate without the putdowns. He still very much believes in Allah. I'm not sure if people knew this that he would get very far in the presidential campaigns. Especially since he only won the Senate because his opponent had to drop out from a sex scandal.
