Okay so check it, Spring is about five days away my friends, and with that brings a great oppourtunity. As I peer through my friends list, I realize that you are all about middle class families with too much stuff. Get rid of it. This spring, and the five days before, Star cleanin'and Moppin'and scrubbin' and gatherin' all the stuff you dont wear, watch, read, use, and donate it all. So many families and children need it far more then you, especially since its only growing moths and dust. And hell, bond with your family while you do this! I mean, do you really talk to your family lately? Maybe you ought to start, and what better a way, then arguing over who put the rotten loaf of bread in the cupboard to grow it's own biome. And since it is me, I'd like to also remind ya'll to try to use the environmentally - and domestically - friendly cleaning products. That spring cleaning thing

Actually I cant do that
I dont save shit long enough to build it up.
several people bring me their old shit clothes and blankets and what not they dont want every month and once a month I make a trip to one of 3 homeless shelters about an hour from me and donate it all. toys go to the local battered women and childrens center as do about half of the childrens clothes and shoes.
Iv been doing this shit for about 6 years now I guess, maybe a bit longer.
I know too many people to not do it, and everyone has shit they give away or throw away. it may jsut as well go to someone in need of it rather than to some thrift store or the garbage can.
I found a group in the big city who accepts donations of appliances and shit, any time theres any out near me they call me and set up a pick up time and I haul them in to be repaired and given to familys that need them, fridges, washers, dryers, microwaves all that shit.
If I hit a dollar store I usually grab 20 bucks worth of shampoo and deodorant and tooth paste and drop them off with the local shelters for battered women as well. 20 bucks buys alot of shit at the dollar store that some people cant afford to keep on hand but 20 dollars isnt really that much to most people, an easy way to help out here and there. -
I'm sure i've said this before, but Joor meh hero :P
-
eh, I jujst started thinking one day abotu all the shit I got rid of and that it wasnt bad shit, just shit I outgrew or didnt want and someone could use it. I started dropping it off at homelss shelters whenever I got a garbage bag or box full of it. pretty soon my mom started giving me her shit to take with it, then her friend, then other people that knew I was dropping it off, now people I dont even fucking know bring shit to my mom or brothers to give to me to take in.Its not a heroic deed, its just a bit of recycling that sees immediate results for some people who dont have the same opportunities Iv had. Keeps some people warm, makes some kids lives that had to leave an abusive home with very little, maybe some of it helps some one get a job who was living in a shelter and didnt have the clothes they needed to fit the look to get back on their feet. Its all at no cost to me, aside form a bit of storage and some gas in the truck to take it in.Even that is negligible as I take it when ever the truck gets full, and I do it when Im heading into that area or at least near there anyways. You can make it a write off for taxes but I always drop it off with no paper work, if people are giving it to me to give to others and clean out their own shit who am I to take a deduction on their deeds and goods?Besides all of that theres been times in my life that it could of been me living on the street or in a homeless shelter if I hadnt had friends and family who pulled my ass out of a hole. The least I can do is use what I got to help someone else get a hand up since it could be any one of us or even me if just a few shitty things happen to go bad. Anything my grandparents had that no one wanted for sentimental reasons after they died got boxed and donated, clothes dishes appliances, even a fucking organ and piano. No one could stand the thoughts of strangers pawing through their treasures and haggling over a price to have a yard sale or anything of that nature so it was all donated. My grandpa gave away lots of shit his whole life to help other people so it made us feel somewhat better about his passing knowing it was helping someone out from him after his death. He had done the same thing with my grand mothers stuff after she died 3 years earlier, aside from a few treasured memories he kept for sentiment and over 20 albums that were full of pictures all the way back to the late 20s.

I'm a big giver-away of stuff and there's still to much shit in my house. At least twice a year we take about seven to ten leaf lawn size bags of clothes up to father for him to give away. And I still have no room in my closet I don't know where all this shit comes from. Furniture, appliances and the like, we always set it out in the driveway and put free on it and it disappears.I think this year I'm gonna donate some cars or see if anybody can fix 'em up and use 'em. I've got three sitting in the driveway that I don't want and aren't worth anything to sell. I think people should just give that kind of shit away and not try to sell it, anyway.

I have a magic site for you!craiglist.org, find your state, choose the closest location. You can choose barter, maybe get something you want or some services like cleaning your yard up in exchange for the car, or list it as free and watch it disappear.free to post shit on, and free to look shit up on as well.THey make the money by charging businesses for ads on real estate. You dont have to look at the ads, its ad free, but realtors pay for placing ads there that people go looking for.its pretty much world wide, you can find jobs, free shit, building material, nearly any god damned thing ya want used and sometimes new.

During all of my recent "oh crap I'm gonna get robbed" scare, I started hiding certain things. I keep a big jar in my bedroom that gets all my spare chance at the end of the day. I hid it in the closet so it couldn't be found by the burglars who have never materialized.
Then Sunday morning I saw at church that some group was asking folks to bring those little plastic eggs filled with change for some worthy missions project. And it dawned on me, if I give that money away, I don't have to worry about it anymore.
It seems like a small thing, eggs and spare change. But it's a pretty important principle, no? The more crap I own, the more I'm gonna worry about that crap getting stolen. The more "simply" I live, the less I worry about losing stuff cause I've already given it all away! Not that this should be anyone's motivation for getting rid of stuff. But I'll take the satisfaction of knowing someone somewhere just had a need met over the worry of losing stuff I can live without any day!
-
One thing to ponder:The less things you have, the more important the few things you have will be. If you lose those, the worse off you'll feel.
-
Damn! I need to buy more stuff!
-
Actually, the less and less you have, the more you realize you don't need material objects anyway, so its easier to lend to those who need it, then feel you've been using it all along.
-
"the less and less you have, the more you realize you don't need material objects anyway..."That's a very true and salient point that a lot of people don't realize. The liberation form being free of crap, that binds us down, can be a near indescribable feeling.
-
see Im lucky in that I dont care what I own, its about what I do and where I go and places I can see and take in.I do own alot of shit, but its mostly tools, and I do need those. too many clothes, or tvs and shit, thats the shit I dont need.I have 4 TVs, only one is a bigger size and HD, my lap top and my4 year olds computer and my 15 year olds comp, and the desktop Im using now, a couple I pods, 2 trucks and a van,the beds and the greatest thing Iv ever found, an electric mattress heating pad! I dont hurt so much when I wake up form that heat being driven into my body all night, and I dont need a heavy blanket on top of me either! That shit is my most prized possessions as far as material shit goes, some rare coins I got as gift, a pocket watch that works thats dated to the late 1800s my mom gave each of us for christmas, and the guns. WHat more do I really need? and I could live with out some of the shit i have.
-
Indeed possessions are a burden. Every time I have moved it was a bigger and bigger exercise, and more and more stressful and difficult. I don't dare move now. And the house is full of stuff, so much of it unnecessary, cluttering everything up, getting in the way, slowing you down, preventing you from finding anything.
-
indeed indeed, IM currently going through our shit and packing it up for storage or to give away what we dont really need or want. trying ot make a move in the next 60 days and no time to start preparing like when your off work and got nearly jack shit to do.much easier now than when work picks up and Im busting my ass daily for 16 to 20 hours.
-
You and Chance both need to learn something. Your stuff is called crap. Other peoples crap is called shit."Get your shit out of my way.""Hey, keep your hands off my crap."Then sometimes we go to garage sales to look through other peoples shit and see if they have anything good to add to our pile of crap.Come on guys get it right. Chance I'll throw something at ya if ya don't recognize that.
-
well when i put my shit in storage I meant the basement, I didnt mean to get a new place to store my shit cos my hosue is empty of stuff!
if you do that you gotta go out and buy more stuff!
we both know where I got that and its where you got yours.
I didnt quite it have not heard it in years but I was thinking hte same thing when me and julz was talking about what we wanted to keep and what we could shit can -
snickers
-
So if I buy some one elses shit, and I add it to my crap, then it turns out that it is a peice of shit, is it ok to flush it?
Looking for a lawn mower, not a piece of shit one, but that and a generator are the crap I need...
-
