Lish and I were just talking and it got me thinking...Do you think A2A is overall better off or worse off with the departure or banning of a handful of controversial members who incited several arguments?Do you think A2A needs to have a certain entertainment value, in order to keep people interested enough to respond to unrelated regular, routine posts? What are your thoughts, do you have any questions or comments to add?

But see I am not for deleting posts unless it's spam or has unwelcomed pictures. I'm very uncomfortable with that.
-
you are not an admin at this time. Moderators can delete/modify posts/threads and ban/unban members too.
-
Whoa?? Buddy seriously what's with the "attitude" in the posts? I wasn't being rude or "mean" in what I said and I doubt sdp was either, he was just stating as Mods we do have the ability to delete/move threads just as much as Admins. I was simply stating I am not in favor or deleting ANY posts regardless (unless Spam), it makes me uncomfortable. Plus I am not a babysitter, I'm not here to weed through every post and delete things because someone might get offended.
I think there is a middle ground when it comes to banning people. Believe it or not I liked SteveA, but he crossed the middle ground on numerous occasions and went into attack mode insulting and personally attacking members. He was warned numerous times, which he failed to listen to. So we, collectively, had to decide it was best for the boards that he was removed from the site. It's not often at all that we ban people; you truly have to cross a lot of boundaries to get banned here.
Debate are healthy and I am an advocate of debates.... If they are healthy and people can have class and not take things too personal where childish name-calling occurs. When it gets to this point it's no longer constructive but instead very destructive.

Actually I did answer the OP's question. But I also take VERY slight offense to you calling us Mods "emotional" LoL. There are very few mods that are regulars on the site... well I should say post regularly on the site (there are many here that are just "behind the scenes"). I haven't see any "emotional" bursts from actively posting mods lol.

this topic has come up a few times in other threads. I think more as a coversation within a converstaion though.Yeah, I miss some of the more inflamatory posters. That said, this forum has no obligation to entertain us. And it it not a democracy nor is any forum. It's a privatly owned entity and the owner (the doctor) has the final say on anything.Steve's banning was a loss. But I could also see his attitude deteriorating under constant and almost automatic attack. Helms was also a loss but his situation was slightly different. I'm not sure why but his attitude also deteriorated greatly. By the time he left, it was as though he was already lost.I don't know who left and who was banned anymore but some of the folks that were always good for an argument were f22fighter (anti-everything fundamentalist), Last (intellegent smart ass trouble maker), average joe (right wing spoiled rich kid), ask^ghost (crazy Romanian)anyway, just like IRL, people come and go

I'm sorry, I didn't intend this to be about Steve or Helms but rather the dynamic that people like them brought to the board. The question I meant to ask was whether that kind of dynamic was good for the long term sustainability of the board? Does lack of such a dynamic now hinder the function of the board, by virtue of a general lack of intrigue that served to keep people around?
i.e.
When arguments were prevalent did people hang around to argue, and because they were interested, and here, answer posts... and now that arguing is less prevalent do people not hang around and therefore posts receive fewer responses?
I don't know if I'm being clear...

The "OP" has a name, you Jackasses, and you both know it.
-
*pokes Scotty* I have other names for you :P
And Rad: Our "job" is to make sure nothing illegal is taking place, posts don't have pornographic material, keep an eye our for pedofiles, settle disputes if needed etc. But I am not here to look through every single post and decide if it's going to offend someone, than delete it because Joe-Shmo is going to get offended. Lord if we did that, I'd have to quit my real job lol.
-
From your posts, you seem to be irritated over something. What it is, I'm not sure.
-
.... I've never had an issue with the notify button. If anything I have encouraged people to use it if they find something that's wildly inappropriate.I think most of the hardcore member base have pretty thick skins and aren't offended by the easiest of things. Maybe I am wrong...

I read most, if not all posts. I don't post responses on every thread because most of the time the same response I would have given has already been stated so no need to say it again.Just today for some reason (though hard to truly know through written words) you just seem irritated is all. Good to know you are not

yup yup sirIt was always exciting to see a firey thread and to keep an eye on it for new postsI've done some of my best wrting (ranting) here. It's kind of a shame when it just drifts off into obscurity when the topic is over.
-
Wow, this is the most action I have seen in awhile. Good job starting an argument Scotty.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I was thinking too.
All I know is that when work is slow I come here and lately I am bored out of my mind because no one else is here. There are no new posts to answer, no one to flirt with, no one to argue with....just myself.
-
You can always flirt with me sexy Lisa

Oh good! We will have to set up a three way....flirt session with Scotty.

Make that a four way with Scotty and Natasha.

So then the question is do you, or anyone here, think the forum fulfills it's mission to a better degree when it [the forum] is also entertaining, be that entertainment flirting, arguing or whatever?
