'We've Already Donated To Haiti, It's Called US Income Tax' ~ Rush Limbaugh Well, it didn't take long for conservative firebrand Rush Limbaugh to use the crisis in Haiti to attack President Obama politically. On his radio show yesterday Limbaugh said the earthquake in Haiti will play right into Obama's hands by allowing him to play up his "compassionate" and "humanitarian" credentials, and that the President will use this crisis to "boost his credibility with the black community."As if that weren't enough, Limbaugh also pivoted off a caller who complained about Obama directing the public to the White House website to find charitable organizations operating in Haiti to promote a conspiracy theory that finding these charities via the White House website puts your money at risk of not reaching Haitians.Limbaugh also seems to feel we've done enough already for Haiti: "We've already donated to Haiti. It's called the U.S. income tax."_________________________________________________________________Haiti 'Cursed' By 'Pact To The Devil' ~ Pat RobertsonTelevangelist Pat Robertson said Wednesday that earthquake-ravaged Haiti has been "cursed" by a "pact to the devil.""Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it," he said on Christian Broadcasting Network's "The 700 Club." "They were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon III, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, we will serve you if you'll get us free from the French. True story. And so, the devil said, okay it's a deal."Robertson said that "ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after the other" and he contrasted Haiti with its neighbor, the Dominican Republic."That island of Hispaniola is one island. It is cut down the middle; on the one side is Haiti on the other is the Dominican Republic," he said. "Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etc. Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island. They need to have and we need to pray for them a great turning to god and out of this tragedy I'm optimistic something good may come. But right now we are helping the suffering people and the suffering is unimaginable."Later that evening, Raymond Joseph, Haitian Ambassador to the U.S., began his appearance on MSNBC's Rachel Maddow Show by shaming Robertson and pointing out that Haiti's freedom led to freedom across Latin America. And they weren't they only beneficiaries from those historic events. "The U.S. was able to gain the Louisianna Territory for $15 million," Joseph added. "That's three cents an acre. That's 13 states west of the Mississippi that the Haitian slaves' revolt in Haiti provided America."

Haiti "Cursed" & "We've already done enough"
-
I'm always amused at how the liberal media first takes statements out of context and then revolves the entire article around them.A barb aimed at Obama gets turned into "We've already done enough for Haiti", which is NOT what was said.Classic.
-
Rush Limbaugh and Pat Robertson are both douches... what more can really be said??

And nor did the article say he said that, it stated he said, "We've already donated to Haiti. It's called the U.S. income tax." Which is basically the same thing as saying We've already done enough for Haiti.

Try putting what was said back into context to see what was really said, and why. I'm no Rush fan, but this is just rediculous.

Lets see "We've already done enough" ... "We've already donated to Haiti. It's called the U.S. income tax".To me that rings basically the same thing. By making such a statement like "We've already donated to Haiti. It's called the U.S. income tax" comes off like he's saying we've already done enough, otherwise why even make such a statement?

It's a barb against Obama...that's why. Obama has been at the top of his hit-list for a long time now. The suggestion is that Obama is going to take all our tax money and give it to Haiti to make himself "look good". "We've already done enough" was never said or suggested...but was put in your mind by the article. You weren't even allowed to draw your own conclusions...the author of the article did it for you, and you didn't even realize it.

thor, since when did you ever argue anything but emotion? and you never use logic, if you did we would not have most the talks we have had on here. You run on faith and emotion, but now call others out for doing it?Your just about as bright as a broken light bulb, ALMOST, but as bright. You wanting logic, holy fuck, maybe the world is about to end.
-
It has nothing to do with anything being put in my mind, and do you think I'm not intelligent enough that I wouldn't have draw the same conclusion?A person does not make a statement like "We've already donated to Haiti. It's called the U.S. income tax" if they weren't implying "we've already done enough". Its logic. But I am sure Limbaugh will do his best to weasel out from his own words yet again..And so we even need to start of Pat Robinsons ignorance... shakes head gotta love some "Christians".

I actually wouldn't doubt if you don't share the same view as Pat Robinson. Hell, now that I think about it, you do remind me a lot of Pat Robinson, which is just really scary. And you're right it has nothing to do with intelligence.. it has to do with logic. Its logic to assume if someone makes such a statement, that are saying we have done enough. Perhaps Limbaugh needs to be a little careful on the words he uses.

Let me share a secret with you Eddie. That fat bastard rush is intelligent, he is smart and underhanded and a liar, but he is intelligent. He is smart enough to not believe the bullshit he spouts. Its his job, its the confrontation taht people want, its a voice for the cause, for right or wrong, its on their side, and he makes sense.Rush knows he is a fat, worthless piece of shit that spouts hate and rants off ideas that would destroy america, or atleast whats left of it. Him getting people pissed is ratings, ratings is money, is books, is videos is more money. He is a craftsman, and I dare say nearly a genius. I like confrontation myself, big fan, I am not as good however as I try to sue facts, and if someone uses facts against me, it is possible to change my mind about it, Rush never lets any of that get in his way of making the dollar. THe morons who buy it and believe it, they are the suckers, but not that bloated piece of shit.

Quote:No, it's just the title of the article. That's all it takes. Actually, "Limbaugh: 'We've Already Donated To Haiti, It's Called US Income Tax' " is the title of the article, "We've already done enough" is part of the title of this thread. You are so fast to jump to the defense of this babbling sack of shit that you don't even know what you're swinging at when you come out fighting. I'm sure if you walked by some poor slobbering inbread mental-case, jerking off on the street corner and yelling "OBAMA IS THE DEVIL" you'd elect him (oh, that is if it's legal for the previous 2-term president to be re-elected)
-
LOL @ The silly evangelist, pact with the devil? I feel like I'm reading the first chapter of "The people of the Lie" All over again, both conclusions are just as retarded.I'll make a pact with the devil on video, and broadcast it on national television just to prove that the devil doesn't exist, yet evangelists will continue to preach, hate in the world will continue, as will ignorance.
-
What I would like to know is whether these are isolated people who have lost their sense of decency, or whether these reflect general conservative feeling.
-
I think the answer's pretty obvious. These folks (Particularly the Rev. Pat) absolutely do not reflect general conservative feeling. I think you'll find that most conservatives are sickened by Robertson's comments and confused by Limbaugh's.
-
That's a relief.I also was confused by Limbaugh's comment, though perhaps it needs its context.
-
I think both their comments make a little more sense in context.
Limbaugh's comments aren't quite as bad as some are making them out to be, but I have a hard time figuring out why they were necessary. He's the one politicizing the tragedy, not Obama.
Unfortunately, Robertson's comments are continually posted without the context. If you look at the entire speech, and not just the Haiti/pact with the devil comment, you'll find him being incredibly compassionate. He's talking about work he and his group have done in Haiti over the past year. He talks about the need for a quick, thorough and compassionate response to what's happening now. Unfortunately, he's a silly old man who's made some rather stupid comments in the past. You would think he'd be a bit more careful with what he says in a public forum.
-
I'm not sure if the context quite forgives the sentiments though. I know his little speech followed a documentary piece on the history of Haiti. My mom's neighbour, a long time 700 Club fan, describes Robertson's words as wicked and evil.I just think they are yet another addition to the litany of insanity he's spouted in the face of tragedy over the years. He's a nut.
-
I'm not defending his words. They were idiotic. I'm just saying that I don't think he was meaning what he wasn't meaning.
