_Why is Friday the 13th Considered Unlucky?
No one knows for sure what's up with our odd fear of Friday the 13th, so ingrained in pop culture that it has a movie series and one mouthful of a phobia---paraskavedekatriaphobia---in its honor.
Folklorists think the dread goes back at least a few centuries, and may well trace its roots all the way to Biblical times, when the 13th guest at the Last Supper betrayed Jesus and caused his Crucifixion, which was held on a Friday. Whatever the origin, by the late Middle Ages both Friday and the number 13 were considered bearers of misfortune. That potent combo, more than any specific association with the date, is what has deemed Friday the 13th unlucky.
Today it's dismissed as an old superstition but---if given a choice---how many of us would eschew getting married, flying or giving birth on a Friday the 13th? Superstition, indeed._
-
How do they know who was the 13th guest? What if two people came to the supper together?
-
apperently, on top of the other sins, Judas was also frequently late (bastard)I celebrated today with a job interview. let's see how that goes
-
Good luck!
-
Good luck, unsupervised!

I had an assesmant worth 40% of my studio production grade on friday the 13th....It didn't go TOO bad My brothers had birthdays on friday the 13th a few times. Last time I made him a giant gravestone carrot cake to celebrate. (Hint: when making carrot cake, dont use olive oil, it makes it taste metalic and nasty. I only say this becuase it took me for ever to figgure out the substituting in canola oil made it yummy scrumbos.)
-
I just had two hard ass finals today, hopefully i did good. I need to get a really really good grade on my english final in order to get into an advanced class.

You know it was a freaky 13th in the Bay Area...There was a black cloud over the South Bay in the Bay Area. There was smoke from a Chemical fire in Fremont and smoke from the fires in Santa Cruz. Best part was in the North bay the sky was fire red.
-
I'm going up to Oakland/Alameda next week. Is there still a lot of smoke up there? Whats the weather going to be like all next week?
-
Was this day named after the movie? Or the movie after the day? I don't believe in the Friday the 13th crap. My 2008 Friday the 13th was actually better than many past.....
Why Friday the 13Th? ... why not Friday the 10th? Is there some reason behind it?
-
The movie was named after the day.Fridays were considered unlucky because of Christ's being crucified on a Friday, and 13 has long been considered an unlucky number - the most common reason given is because there were 13 at the Last Supper, but I think it may go back further than that. The two together were therefore considered especially unlucky.
-
Yeah.. I'll be on a ship in the bay at Alameda.. it's always windy and chilly.
-
i didn't even know the number 13 was unlucky...
-
i didn’t know people thought it was unlucky was what i meant. like i know for years and years that people think opening a umbrella inside is badluck and walking under ladders and all that stuff.... 4 leaf clover give good luck those kinda things.. never knew about the number 13 thing.

the "no 13th floor" thing is stupid. A rose by any other name and all.I did some work in a new condo in Toronto. The developer and most of the future customers were Chinese. It had no 4th floor for the same reason, silly superstitionI couldn't make it to this this year because I don't own bike yet Friday the 13th

No. There is an ex-Navy ship that is used by the Missle Defense Agency to track missles/rockets out at sea. They use our equipment as part of the system. I go out there to make sure our stuff is working right. I've gone out to sea 3 times but they decided I wasn't going out on the next trip in July.Heard of the Ballistic Missle Shield thay want to put in Europe? This is from the last mission I was on in September. http://www.mda.mil/mdalink/videos/Sept_28_2007_Interceptvideo.wmv
