Here we go again, and we are kicking it off bigger than I have ever seen it here in Nor Cal...Cal Fire tells a bit about it. Not alot of info for us though. We have seen alot of big fires, but usually miles and miles of wilderness, this time around, there are LOTS of little fires. I am so socked in with smoke that I can't go outside, (that has not happened since I moved here 16 years ago!)The worst part, is our local news anchor, was totally freaking out on the news last night, which doesn't help anyone who is nervous already. The WHOLE broadcast was about the fires...LAME. Those who are flooding, we could use the water!!! Sheesh, figures huh? Fire and water, one extreme to the other.

Summer fire season...

Bah, we're prepared, we have a good defensible space, and we're pretty savvy. I worry more about other people who aren't as prepared. The ONLY thing we don't have that we could use is a generator to run the well if we lose power. But really, we have it down to bare mineral soil around our house, and there are no ladder fuels for any of the trees to catch, and the ones close to the house, are far away from the ones that could be caught up in a canopy fire.Yesterday, at noon, some idiot out here decided that it was a good time to go run a lawn mower. I only have 2 neighbors with lawns, and it was neither of them, so who ever it was, was cutting dead grass. I sat here pissed for quite some time over that one!!!

I am in the Tehama fire district. There is NO info about where the fires are. I guess no homes threatened means no need to worry about it huh?I would just like to know where they are.I Was able to catch one of my birds and get him in out of the haze, but the other one is going to get hurt by me trying to catch her, so hope smoke inhalation doesn't get her!!!

I love the smell we have, but it is so smokey...

The smell, was ok for a minute. I could tell the difference when it started to become canopy fires. One small community here is under evacuation orders simply because they only have one truck available to tend to the whole town. Too many fires, not enough people and equipment to fight them. Other communities are being (have been) evacuated but because the fires are just growing.Waking up this morning, and being able to look at the sun was rather eerie! It disappeared behind the smoke about 7 pm last night. We are getting ALL the smoke, no matter what way the wind blows, it settles in the valley from one direction or the other. Oh joy!!
