40 cents per bag? Let's say I buy $200 worth of groceries $2/item. Roughly 3 items a bag. 33 Bags. 33 x 40 cents a bag = $13 extra. That's absurd. You can recycle the bags too, so why have a charge?
-
Son, when you make a death threat against a public official or celebrity on the Internet, it's a big deal. I'm just trying to clue you in.Why do you keep PMing me? Do you really need my approval for your ideas? My only wish is that you become better informed, but in the mean time not jump to crazy conclusions about things, and insist on their absolute truth. Think man, think. Look at things from other perspectives. Don't be so cocksure about things. You may think you have earned it, but you haven't.And maybe you should cool it with the name calling. It doesn't make your ideas seem any stronger. It just makes you seem weak.
-
Because some people waste them and end up everywhere. Why, I don't know. That's why there's the option of those recycled cloth bags or simply bring your own bags to the store. We need to get used to it. According to this, bags are being banned, not just charged. If you really, really want to vent on absurd charges, try the airlines. Lucky me, I'm to broke too fly anywhere.

Plastic soup? No, I'm afraid not.
-
It's a real problem for aquatic animals, as well as other kinds of plastic debris, pieces of fishing line, etc.My cat would get his head stuck in the handles of plastic grocery bags. He never seemed to learn.

I've seen the report 2 times on TV and it's getting thicker.
Birds and fish eat it and it can't be digested.
There's a particular huge area where this stuff is massively accumlated. I've seen video footage of it that is just astonishing.

Feel free to get literal. What I said made no sense. It was a typo. I should have looked at it more carefully before I sent it. It did not say what I'd intended.Let me try again:It's a real problem for aquatic animals. Other types of plastic debris, such as pieces of fishing line, etc. are also a big problem. (Also, plastic generally biodegrades very slowly.)There. It looks like we both expressed ourselves in ways that did not convey the meaning we intended.

Actually, I had to stop and think about it. I'm not joking. There are definitely animal rights groups (like the various SPCAs) that don't do things like that. As far as I know, it's unique to PETA, and maybe some people working on their own.
Edit: By "it", I meant your original post in question.

This is one of the most ignorant statements I've seen you said. Maybe if you had said totalitarian, it would make sense, but you don't even seem to know what Communism is. I suggest you do a little researching into what it actually is instead of either making up stuff about it or blabbering other fabricated lies about Communism. That is a straw man argument, not HCl's. Maybe you'll be able to learn more about it like you did when you actually researched Evolution.
Btw, plastic bags are generally a petroleum-based product. So your logic dealing with gas prices is flawed. Projects like this are what are needed into getting people to take the small steps towards bettering our society. And if the fees are that bad, people suffering from the economy would, as they normally do, go the cheaper way and purchase the reusable bags.

_What I haven't heard is where does it come from?
Who dumps it there?
It has to be a municipal dump.
Mere littering can't do that much, can it?
_I've been out to sea on a government ship. They separate trash. Food, paper and metals went in one bag. Plastics in another.. when we mad it out about 400 miles, they would throw it overboard. The plastics were saved to be trashed back at shore. I can't remember if plastics were completely banned from being dumped or not. I wonder if all ships regulate themselves as to dumping trash at sea.
This ship I was on also did some house cleaning.. they were dumping pipes, heavy rubber tubing, big metal valves.... even a bathroom sink.. I was disguted but I guess it's allowed as long as you are X miles out to sea.

The reports I've seen on this said that this stuff doesn't come from any particular place, but from all over the world. There is something about the ocean currents that causes it to accumulate in that large area. Some scientists have recovered samples to study for origins. Apparently there is a common practice on commercial and even cruise ships of dumping garbage while out to sea, and that's a small part of it. But the bulk of it seems to just be garbage from beaches and waterways that makes its way to the ocean.

All of the people who committed violent acts were animal rights activists. But the preponderance of animal right activists do not commit violent acts. You made a generalization about animal rights activists. All of the people who flew planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on 9/11 were Arab Muslims, but the preponderance of Arab Muslims would not commit that type of violent act.See? Same thing, different subject.Your story about the guy you (almost) dated drives home the point: that animal right activists have antisocial tendencies. There would be little other purpose in relating the story. if not to slam animal rights activists by pointing out the irony. As far as I can tell, in the aggregate, they're not much different from other people, although I haven't met that many. But I wouldn't generalize.
-
There are probably places where trucks dump trash into the ocean. But there are a lot of ships at sea at any given time, and a lot of them are dumping a lot of stuff once they're out to sea, as sdp pointed out.Since a lot of that stuff doesn't biodegrade or sink, it just accumulates on the surface. Over the course of years, it's quite a bit of stuff.
-
You're generalizing again. I'm not an animal rights activists and I love hamburgers. And steaks. Well, not lion steaks.I am speaking strictly about the meaning of sentences. Your may not have intended it, but your original statement was clearly a generalization. Frankly I don't see how you could dispute that. But then you drove home the "problem with animal rights activists" issue with your story about the rude animal rights activist guy.
-
The guy has a problem about taking offense for anyone and anything. He's just like Al Sharpton. Doesn't give a fuck about anyone but will take offense for anything to make himself look good and look smart. He just pretends to take offense at things so he looks smarter and like a great person. It just makes him look like a jerk-off.

This has gone way off of where i intended. i get all my news from the internet. gmail news, yahoo news, and NYtimes iphone app news. i was just asking if anyone else saw that trend.
@someone who said that a month before clinton ceceeded (spelling?) i was in Switzerland for all that so do not know the whole story and got all my non internet news from the BBC, they ran a story asking why the press signed off on clinton saying she had to win every state when at the time she was in the lead! i personally find the daily show and the colbert report to be the least biased out of the news offered, but do not have cable so /shrug.
-
yes. you know that a higher percent of people with higher education rely on the daily show or the colbert report for their news then relying on fox news or cnn?
-
Honey, and do you think calling him a dick will make you look any smarter Or getting angry over an internet forum will make you look any better?I don't think so. Try to keep your cool.
