i have to decide whether to apply ED to UPenn or Rice in the next 2 days and am kinda freaking out about it. I want to duel major business and engineering, and UPenn has a great program for it (i did a summer class that was hosted by the program called management and technology and loved it average starting salary first year out is 110k) but i didnt really like the campus/location/people or dorm but loved wharton. rice i liked the campus/location/people, however id be on my own for the duel major and the business is not nearly as good as wharton and the engineering department is much smaller.anyone go/went to either or have a suggestion?

Early admission, UPenn or Rice?

I didn't go to either of those schools, so I don't really know what they're like. just an opinion- Given that you seem pretty sure about what you want to study and that Wharton has an ideal program in that field, I think it might be wise to choose Wharton. I do know that it has a fantastic reputation and would be a great credential for you. Even if it's got the negatives that you mentionned, it's still very possible to find some living arrangements and people you'll like once you've been there a little while. I don't think Rice has quite the reputation that Wharton does.

It's always a good idea, if possible, to talk to professionals in the field you want to study. Sometimes a school's reputation among professionals is lower or higher than it is among the general public.I would say in general that the quality of the teaching is a lot more important than the social life or accommodation quality. You can put up with less than ideal conditions for a few years, but your education will affect a lot of your life. I'd especially try to avoid a place where you were the only one doing that particular dual major. If there aren't enough of you, there isn't enough incentive among the staff to make sure that timetables don't clash and that subjects mesh well.I'm rather sceptical of an average starting salary of $110K for a management/technology degree. There are an awful lot of people with such degrees, and it usually means they can use Excel to make a balance sheet. (I'm exaggerating a bit, but not all that much.)

Why do you only have two days to decide? As far as I was aware, no Early Decision deadlines start till November (I'm choosing over ED or a chance at a 40k scholarship but regular decision). Have you talked to your counselor about this?
-
Why do you only apply to one?
-
Early Decision means you can only apply to one college and no others, thats so if you get into the school you have to go there and no place else. However if your denied your free to go apply wherever else
-
You only should do it if it's your number one, top choice school. Applying Early Decision tells them that you want to go there, they don't have to go through a process to see how committed you are. It gives you a better chance at acceptance for that reason. Also, you'll get your answer before your applications for other colleges have to be submitted, so if you do get denied, you can still send your other applications on time. It's a choice, you don't have to do it.
