I've always wanted to get in shape, eat healthy, get muscle definition, etc. My biggest hang up however, is that the most important part of all of that, is eating healthy, and in college, I find it so difficult to do so. A lot of the food the dining halls offer are greasy and unhealthy. It's difficult to have a balanced diet when for example the only fruit they have all day is unripe pears. Any athletes, or just anyone who's been through / is going through college have any thoughts or ideas on how to manage a balanced diet out of cafeteria food?

Im am athlete and a college student and i still dont eat a balanced or healthy diet. Mostly because i dont have the money to shop for the right foods, and im just bad at eating right. I stay in good shape though through training. Its going to be hard to eat right when your running from class to class and grabbing meals inbetween. You could either pack your own food, and keep it in a cold box (those cold pack things) and keep it in your car and get it after class. Or just cut down on bad foods and just eat it once in awhile.

Good for you for making the choice to eat healthy. You are what you eat. Institutional cooking is not always the most healthy, but if you look hard you can find things that are better than the others. Do you have a salad bar option? Beware the Freshman fifteen.

You just have to control your portion size. Much of that "greasy" food isn't unhealthy per say, it's just loaded with energy, far too much for what you actually need. Eat smaller amounts, and buy a huge multi-vitamin tub that'll last you a few months.Then again, if you're looking to put on some muscle; lift heavy, lift hard, and eat as much of that grease as you can. All you can eat dining halls are great for doing that.

Like someone else mentioned, if you have a salad bar that's better than nothing. I am fortunate enough to have a decent cafeteria that has a large salad bar with all the vegetables and fresh fruit in the morning. I'm actually eating healthier now than when my parents fed me. Basically, just don't eat as much of the junk food that they offer and try to see what else they have. If possible, contact the head of the food department at your school and talk to them about offering healthier options. I'm sure you aren't the only one concerned about the health quality of the food at your school. Another possibility is putting a presentation together about offering better foods and presenting to some higher-up administrators at your school. If you actually get things changed, that would look pretty good on your resume.

Hellloooo my friend.Alright, I've had this kind of an experience myself to want to lose weight in college. Mine was more by circumstance rather than begging to lose weight. I was inspired by the documentary show "30 Days" by Morgan Spurlock and ever since, I've been infatuated with it. I decided to do my own version of it and went on a 30 Day diet-thing where I ate essentially totally healthy and worked out every 2-3 days (atleast in the beginning, towards the end I worked out more). I ate many fruits, veggies and turned to things like Turkey burgers,regular turkey and grilled chicken strips from Purdue you can buy at Walmart.In 30 Days, I lost 24 Pounds doing all of this. I started at 241 and ended at 217. I'm 6'2 and I look a ton better now, and I have since carried on this experiment with the first semester of school about to end. Water, working out, cutting out most/practically all of the bad crap you ate and finding alternatives is what does it pal.Good luck buddy
