Hey, I'm determined now to get fitter, become involved with a sport that I could enjoy, and gain weight.I have jeans that 26" and 28" waist and both fit me, so I'm something like that. I'm 5"9. I weighed 8 stone 9 pounds last time I checked, which means I've gained weight in the past year, because I was around 7 stone 11 pounds at Christmas.I don't want to gain too much weight for my build, because I'm naturally skinny with a really fast metabolism. I just want to be training properly so that any weight I gain is muscle mass instead of fat. I might be at an okay, (all though still very light) weight, but my body still visually looks as skinny as always because I haven't gained any muscle because I let myself slip lol.Any tips/comments about a good way to get into the practice of weight/muscle gain?

I don't have tons of time to write at the moment, but protein is your friend! So make sure you get plenty of protein everyday. It'll help you build muscle and help keep body fat down. If you have access to a gym that would be fantastic! Get yourself into a routine, a mix of cardio and weight lifting.
I'm sure others will fill in more of what I missed.

thank you i just get so self conscious of myself...i don't like going swimming because i feel i'm too thin. and...and it doesn't help that my best friend who i really like is a professional rower :Pi'm not trying to change myself to get his attention, in case anyone thinks that. i want to gain weight/muscle mass so i can get more self confidence, and feel more comfortable around him too. i always think, even if he was gay, he wouldn't be attracted to me.

Many guys feel self-conscious about being thin, something I've never understood. While some people obviously go for muscles, you'll also find lots and lots of thin guys in porn, especially gay porn. Being thin is evidently a plus.

I know this is true, but I've walked down the street and some random stupid person has shouted "oi, anorexic dude!!" and i thought, surely i'm not that thin? i mean im really thin...but not to that extent? or am i? ... see those are the thoughts that come to my mind.my best friend doesn't mind at all, i've mentioned it before and he said that if he can't see the problem then i should try not to.

Anything using your own body weight should help, pull ups, chin ups, dips, push ups, sit ups inclined and declined. So as many pull ups as you can.

I also want to have some neutral and credible information on this issue. What is the core reason for being thin ? Is it your family history ? Masturbation ? Tension ? or what ?I eat too much , infact too much ! Still I dont gain any weight. Had to act like a nerd for past 5 years. My father was also thin in his teenage (now pretty muscular in his 47 year age). I also masturbate and have reduced my frequency now.I cant figure out what is the reason , either masturbation or it is just temporary problem that will cure in future. Maybe it is due to taking less exercises or less involvement in sports ? My height is growing OK but not gaining any weight. I am 5'8" tall and weigh 52 kgs

It's genetics - some people have a 'fast' metabolism and tend to be thin (ectomorphs). There's nothing unhealthy about this. You will find that as you get older you start putting on weight as your metabolism slows down. It has nothing to do with masturbation. It is not necessary for thin people to be nerds!Working out, with adequate protein, will put on some muscle.

Everyone has missed the most vital piece of advice; eat!You can add protein to your diet and do all the push ups in the world but if you don't fuel your body you simply won't grow.Eat, eat and eat. Don't be afraid you'll grow fat or too bulky, it takes an awful lot of food to make someone like you (or me) gain.

Im in the same boat. Im 19 in college and I am really skinny. I dont really mind it but recently Ive decided Im going to start going back to the gym cause I think even if I dont gain much more weight at least Ill have a little more muscle so I dont look as skinny.I used to go to the gym a good deal and I can lift a lot of weight for my size but you really cant tell cause of my size. Im about 6" and I weigh about 135 pounds, when I used to go to the gym more I weighed 140 so not too much of a difference. Also, I must have a really good metabolism cause I have tried everything to gain weight but nothing really works. But thats ok cause Im ok with the way I am. Its just if I ever needed to gain weight I dont think I could.
