Hey guys - how are you? Would you guys think I'm stupid if I let online forum harassments from other sites affect me? There's this one site, IMDb.com, I'm not sure if any of you guys use it, but people have been bashing me and stalking me for over a year. They've accused me of getting their posts deleted and flooded the board with hateful posts about me saying the most horrid things for something I didn't even do. The Administration there sucks ass and they are hard to reach, and when I do finally reach them, they still do jack shit.Every time I try to get a new user account, they accuse anyone "sounding like me" of being me and a lot of other innocent posters, so they can bash me some more. It's been going on since January of 2007, but with a new group of bullies for about 4 to 5 months. They even took this off the TV forums and onto my personal blogs, even though it was a place for me to vent the frustration about it.It may seem like I'm a loser who spends a lot of time online :(, but during my free time, sometimes I like to go to forums to talk about TV shows...I guess that's my thing, like other people's things may be playing video games or something. And it sucks for me because I can't enjoy it. I can put them on my ignore list, but they make tens and thousands of posts hating me, making other people think I'm this crazy psycho.I've tried to stop going there, but that site's just so addicting, plus, I hate the fact that even when I'm not there anymore there's so much hate posts about me.What would you do if you couldn't help but to keep going back and kept trying to hide your identity, but they stalked you until they found it?Am I stupid to let this affect me? They've said some pretty harsh and uncalled for things, especially for things I didn't do.I think of it this way...if people can meet from online to date and develop feelings over a PC, then there are also the gangs and bullies online who say hateful things, I'm not sure how to explain it.Thanks for reading.-Jessica

Should I let online harrassment affect me?

You can't stop it affecting you, because human beings are built to care about what other people think. However you can try to change what you do. There must be some reason why they are latching on to you, and why they recognise that it is you, probably having to do with how you react to something.
"I hate the fact that even when I'm not there anymore there's so much hate posts about me" is unhealthy, and suggests a problem. No-one can ever know everything that people say about them, and actively to seek to find out brings nothing good. -
Find another forum, one with better admins. I'm sure there are thousands of TV forums.

You've come to know the personalities of the people you communicate with, that's the major draw of a forum.Pick a forum you like the look of, register it and bookmark it. Every time you post a new topic on IMDb post that same post on the new forum. Eventually the other forum too will grow on you (or at least you'll be curious to see who has responded) and begin visiting it more often.
