The new movie is on its way, I must admit at first I was a little skeptical about it, given that it's the original enterprise (NCC-1701... no A, B, C, D or E!!) with a new bunch of actors, but having seen the advert, I can't wait for its impending release!!!the movie ad's are available on youtube, or if you've got a fast connection, in HD from the star trek movie site: http://www.startrekmovie.com/See what you think... I think Chris Pine as Kirky, and Zachary Quinto as Spock is an absolute stroke of genius, also look out for John Cho (AKA Harold from Harold and Kumar) as Sulu, and perhaps most importantly of all: Simon Pegg as Scotty!!!!It's going to be an immense movie year next year, and I can't wait!!! not just for Trek either, there're going to be lots of good films next year

The new (yet strangely) Old Star Trek...
-
I'm going to see it just to see what Quinto can do with the role of Spock. Also, my friend is a massive Star Trek fan, and he said he needed someone to see this with.

I'm in!I shared your skeptasism but but the trailer seemed to settle that down a bit. I'm not a total geek but I am a solid partial geek
-
The trailer seemed to take it all too seriously. The charm of the original series was its principle of having a spaceshipful of incompetent misfits, headed by a captain who had got his position by cheating in his exams and who was totally unable to resist anything in a skirt, and an Asperger science officer with no idea how to relate to people, put in a spaceship that often broke down and sent off on vague missions that kept them a long way out of the way of the real starfleet work; and then to have them played by actors who were similarly less competent than they imagined; and to do it all with such a straight face that many fans still don't get the joke.
-
oh, I get the joke but you have to remember how very serious it all was to my my mind when it was less than a decade old.
Hence my only partial geekness  -
I get the joke... I'm not a "trekkie" or "trekker" (or whatever it is they prefer to be called these days) though, I just like big booms and special effects... though, if you watch the opening of the ad, you get the impression that young kirky is a little dick who's nicked a car, and then crashed it off a cliff (fitting the misfit thing) it also looks as though new kirky gets it on with new uhura (much like TOS, which incidently (I read this earlier, I'm not such a geek that I would have known this off the top of my head) was the first interacial kiss on American TV) ... and if it was taking itself seriously, I sorely doubt it would have Cho (Harold and Kumar fame) or Pegg (Shawn of the Dead/Spaced/How to Lose Friends and Alienate People) in it ... Personally (and this is a pretty big leap, admittedly as I only have the ad's to go on) it seems to me as if they've captured the original rather well, and just updated it... now all we need is a scene with "star trek ridge"* in it then we're sorted lol*For anyone wondering what the deus I'm talking about: http://flickr.com/photos/emanueljones/1367623235 ... the setting for many many famous films, bought to my attention by seeing the TOS episode on Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, and then evil Bill and Ted take Bill and Ted to kill them there (san fernando valley)
-
I can hardly wait!!!!!!I've seen every movie and love the each and every series..
-
but the one when they made Kirk act like a horse? oh fuck oh dear but it still kills me to think about
-
I like TOS, and TNG, I have issues with Voyager because it's star trek's blatent attempt to rip off Lost in Space, and DS9... erm, can anyone say Babylon 5???? OMG, stick to what you're good at Trek producers!!!!Also, much as everyone slates it I absolutely love Enterprise... though, makes me wonder where "Al" is sometimes heh hehOh, wait... that's right... heeeeere's Al!! ... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=UKYurmpYiPw&feature=related
