Im a bit confused, I would imagine the boards would be flowing with questions in a website like this. There's 16,109 members but only 3-5 registered users online at a time. I assume people usually make accounts, ask 1 question, and then leave. But still I feel like there should be a lot more posts in a website like this. Whats wrong, does it need to be advertised or something?

Yes, most users don't stay long. But the site used to be quite a bit busier before new software was installed a couple of years ago that changed all the URLs so the old Google references stopped working. We've never really recovered from that.Any advertising you can do would be appreciated.

Well.......welcome to one of our slow periods.... it happens sometimes. a lot of our users are collage kids and most have not returned back to school from winter break.Feel free to ask away

Oh I see, is Steve_A still around, I actually use to be a member in 2005 (forgot my username/password) I really hated him. lol
-
i was thinking about this too, but i wasn't sure if it'd be okay. ill see what i can do for you guys. but since the software you installed is that old, shouldn't the crawlers pick it up now? if it's been that long...
-
Steve_A is no longer around (at least, not posting).
-
Yes, things here certainly find their way onto Google; it's just that we never caught up the momentum we lost then.
-
I've thought about this but have neither time nor the knowhow. What would be best for this site is advertising on like dorm room bulletin boards. I was thinking low tech. Like the little, "Learn to play guitar. First lesson free!" things with the phone number tear off things at the bottom of the paper. My thought was it's cheap and free unlike advertising on most web oriented shit.Having said that, I would be willing to donate something to pay for some advertising. I've looked I've found nowhere else to go. This place is the only thing that make my job bearable.Maybe we could set up a fund, for members who could or wanted to, to donate for advertising.
-
That sounds pretty good, though I think in my college you might need special permission to advertise. Maybe not, I would have to double check.
-
We need to do something, I agree. It used to be an extremely busy place. There are many factors have had played it's part and has effected this place like the new software, the steve_a thing and lets not forget the angery dramatic parting of the way with helmsmen.(I wonder how Wally is doing too?)We need to do something. maybe like add a link on our myspace and facebook accounts....Just as a side note....If anyone still keeps in touch with Wally, please tell him I said hello. I've sent him a few emails over the last year but they were never answered. I hope he's still enjoying sailing.

I dont think I'd want anyone I know coming here. Thats why I come here.. because I dont want some people I know knowing about my persona shit.
But I do agree.. this place has been very dead. Maybe Ill post the link on my blog.
-
Same here!
I used to come on here all the time in ~2005\.
Fast forward 4 years, and I've forgotten my user and pass, so I just created a new one, and I'm back on! Welcome back on board! -
Welcome back! I wonder who you were.
-
What was your user name before?
-
Hey Ineligible and Roc. Thank you! Unfortunately, I have absolutely no recollection as to what my user name was(blame the weed!.. j/k)But I remember both of you. Happy late New Year!
-
So what are your thoughts on this advertising stuff Pete, and where the hell has SDP been?
-
sdp is around a lot, even when he's not posting. The net is a lot more diffuse than it used to be. The more links to A2A the better, but can people think of places we especially should be linked from that we're not?
-
_and where the hell has SDP been? _
I check the posts but have decided not to post anymore...
Several twits have alluded that I'm an asshole.. So fuck it. let them post and respond.
-
You are not an asshole.
-
So what, fuck 'em. I imagine that there are far more here who value your input than there are those that don't. And, if the don't fuck 'em.
