Well I have been registered at this forum for a while, trying to read and learn some things. I forget about this place and remember it when I have a question and try to do basic research, so I really don't post here often, but this is...I guess a little more personal that I can't do actual research on...anyway...I am looking to try and burn off some fat and increase some endurance, and well the basic average stuff...Well, I am currently taking a jogging class at my Community College. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays we do jogging (once a week we will be in a classroom so really only two days of jogging) for about 20-30 minutes. This class just started so I'm still getting use to it. But on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays I am taking a 3-4 mile walk wearing a 20lb conditioning vest.So I guess my question really is, is this a good setup? And I am considering pulling maybe Sunday off the list so I can give my body a lot of extra time to rest up so I'm good for Monday. Does anybody have any real suggestions or think this is a decent setup? Thanks for taking your time to read and answer my question ^_^.

Setting a training program

It's not too bad if you want to get in shape. Perhaps even do other activities. Maybe swim on your off days. It doesn't have to be insane amounts, but if you're actually swimming, it's a good way to build up endurance.

Hm..thanks ^^Well me and swimming don't exactly mix, not exactly a big fan of it. I have one other activity that I will soon take up again, but I need to pickup the supplies first....a little costly but most definitely worth it ^^.

If you want to lose weight; diet. It's very hard to lose weight through exercise alone, unless you perform huge amounts of it.For endurance, you really want to push yourself. A 4-5k walk (even with the vest) will not do that. You want your heart rate and breathing up, and should be pushing your body, forcing it to adapt, strengthen and grow. Jogging with the occasional sprints etc will do that.

So basically...my setup is fine...just on the days I am walking do a quick jog here and there to pump my heart rate up?

You should be jogging the entire time, and doing short sprints (like 100m, or a street block). You'll never build up endurance or lose weight "walking" - not unless you weight 150kg+

Well a beginner with a fairly low fitness level would be unable to jog 3-4 miles with a 20lb vest on. As far as walking goes speed contributes A LOT to it, if your walking slowly you exert very little energy...the faster you walk the more energy you exert. It's a matter of building up to points rather then go 100% every day.

Even when unfit, sprints and jogs are not going 100%. All I'm trying to say is if you're going to spend 30-60min working out you may as well get the best of it. Walks will help, but for a little big extra effort you will see much, much better results. The human body is much tougher and resilient than people give it credit for. Push it and it will quickly adapt and grow.Of course don't push it too far, but you know what I'm getting at.

I am aware. The human species ability to adapt is very high, the problem is our greatest achievements seems to be our physical downfall....that being our technological achievements....thanks for your advice though
