I will give ya 3 that all died on teh same day. feb 3 1950, inspired the beatles and lennon even learned to play his shit first. Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the big bopper. After diving into those look into The Doors and Jim Morrison.

want to try some really different shit?Look into Jim Carrol Band.Ever see the basketball diary's? its the story of jim carrol growing up in new york at a catholic boys school. Hes played by leonardo dicaprio, its an older movie, jim did the entire soundtrack for it, and wrote the book that inspired the movie.Excellent movie, great story and good music, if you jsut look into the sound with out the movie then I suggest People Who Died and Catholic Boy for the firs two songs Id look at. DO not read the lyrics, just find the sons and listen, then go read the lyrics if you must know. People who died has been recorded by many people after him, including marolin manson, but its Jims song and his version is still the best. You tube anyone?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBbuPnfG0VoPeople who died live performance.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdftnLhRCuQCatholic boy music, no real video.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vhpB6EF6l8&feature=relatedThe trailer for Basket Ball Diaries. The true story of JIm Carrol, his youth, and battle with drugs in catholic school.I saw this fucking way back, like when it was in theatres. I knew the music before i knew the movie, an advantage of an older brother by 10 years who had great taste in music and spent alot of time with me.Same brother that turned me on to Joplin, Buddy Holly, The doors, The stones, frank zappa, deep purple, black sabbath,,, all the good shit of my youth. I was the only one in my school who knew the music, an I was 6 years old when he introduced me to alot of it, by the end no older than 8 and had all of it in my collection of 8 tracks.

Hmmm...Cliff Richard & the ShadowsThe Plimsoulsold U2...hard to say as the Beatles sounded different depending on which era you're thinking of.
-
What kind of Ray Charles do you like I'm a Ray Charles fanatic. I love listen to Ray and Chaka Kahn in the caddy while cruisin' down the highway doin' 90. What of his shit do you like? I like it all but some just like a certain sound in some of his songs. You might check out Billie Holiday. I also love her singing. Oh, and I love Ella. And, i can't forget Louis.

My Fave song of his is Hard Times!

Jackson brown, long time friend and collaborator of Warren Zevon. You ever check out zevon after all the times I have told you to do so?We already know ya like JB, so how about a bit of JB and WZ in one place at one time?here we have Mohammad's Radio, written by the two of them, JB singing back up and playing guitar to WZ piano and lead vocals.with WZ, its the lyrics, then the tune, listen ot the lyrics...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44Rwu5yPUrc&feature=relatedKeep in mind that is 70's JB and WZ.some later work they did together...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cts5relHGrE&feature=relatedThe ballad of frank and jesse james....They rode against teh governor, they rode against the banks and never did they ask for a word of thanks...A Zevon solo work, a song he wrote after he found out he was going to die, and before he told anyone in the public. Noone knew he was sick for a couple of years after this, so it immediately changed the whole song once ya knew he knew when he wrote it and recorded it. My Shits Fucked Up:""I said my shits fucked up!? well I dont see how." he said "well the shit that used to work? well it wont work now.""http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2aUJF3gdog&feature=PlayList&p=80E2C6AB38835D7A&playnext=1&index=2I looked, but never found a video for Carmelita, a song those two wrote together and performed together on stage several times. Its not hard to find a mp3 of it, but someplace I can send you to hear it? fucking impossible apparently.so while it does it no justice, here be the lyrics:I hear Mariachi static on my radioAnd the tubes they glow in the darkAnd I'm there with her in EnsenadaAnd I'm here in Echo ParkCarmelita hold me tighterI think I'm sinking downAnd I'm all strung out on heroinOn the outskirts of townWell, I'm sittin' here playing solitaireWith my pearl-handled deckThe county won't give me no more methadoneAnd they cut off your welfare checkCarmelita hold me tighterI think I'm sinking downAnd I'm all strung out on heroinOn the outskirts of townWell, I pawned my Smith CoronaAnd I went to meet my manHe hangs out down on Alvarado StreetBy the Pioneer chicken standCarmelita hold me tighterI think I'm sinking downAnd I'm all strung out on heroinOn the outskirts of townCarmelita hold me tighterI think I'm sinking downAnd I'm all strung out on heroinOn the outskirts of town

The last post sent me rifling through my collection, I have not heard any zevon for a bit and now I got about 4 hours of it cued up, that lead to the random feature of the player and in my current state of affairs it occurred to me that Warren wrote a song that may as well be the soundtrack to my life.I was in the house when the house burned down.Listen at :http://www.vh1.com/artists/az/zevon_warren/169749/album.jhtmljust click the blue speaker next to track 1 and it will load in a pop up.FUck the work I do for you people to share Zevons gifts! know how long it took me to find someplace you could here this? I have it on tape,cd, and mp3! I didnt need to go find the shit!and in case you have no straeming capabilities, the lyrics:I had the shit till it all got smokedI kept the promise till the vow got brokeI had to drink from the lovin' cupI stood on the banks till the river rose upI saw the bride in her wedding gownI was in the house when the house burned downI may be old and I may be bentBut I had the money till it all got spentI had the money till they made me payThen I had the sense to be on my wayI had to stay in the undergroundI was in the house when the house burned downI was in the house when the house burned downI met the man with the thorny crownI helped Him carry his cross through townI was in the house when the house burned downI was in the house when the house burned downI met the man with the thorny crownI helped Him carry his cross through townI was in the house when the house burned downI had the shit till it all got smokedI kept the promise till the vow got brokeI had to drink from the lovin' cupI stood on the banks till the river rose upI saw the bride in her wedding gownI was in the house when the house burned down

Hows about Ben E. King? His song ''Stand By Me'' was re-released by John Lennon sometime in the 70s (I think...the 70s, I could be wrong). So, there's a connection to the Beatles.Or what about Smokey Robinson? I like this song.Speaking of Smokie...different Smokie, but still great songs. This is a well known one. I always thought it was 'Living Next Door To Alison''. It's actually Alice. I only found that out now whilst youtube'ing (funny how that's now a verb!) the song. My mom used to play it all the time when she was driving when I was younger. She also like the Eagles. This is a song I remember most. Actually, one specific time, we were driving from the grocery store and there was a huge traffic jam, and this was playing. I probably sound extremely weird, but I sometimes associate events with songs, but that's just me. Enjoy!

It's good! It sounds so up-beat but the lyrics are so sad!

For an older sound I always love to hear Creedence.
