Hey y'all,So, I'm on of those people that's a complete succer for second-hand bookstores. I can't walk past without going in. So this Saturday, i was in a different part of town, and lo and behold, there it was. Smiling at me. Begging me to go in. I just couldn't say no. The choice wasn't great, and the price range was similar to that of a regular bookstore. But just as I was walking out, I saw this spine (I know, total movie-moment). I took her down, from the top shelf, read the back, and was hooked. The book was ''Tuesdays With Morrie''. I finished it the same day. To be honest, it was a great book. A put-things-in-perspective, see-the-bigger-picture, love-life kinda book. The reason I'm making this post is just to share it with you guys. You may not like it, but then again, it might help you in some way. Also, if anybody has read it, I'd be greatful if you'd let me know, 'cause I gots me some questions!

A book...

I'm only posting because I wanted to make a suggestion on a book you might like... who knows you might have already read it.. but it's called "Halfway down Patty Lane" by Jean Marzollo.
Its targeted to young adult, so it's not a hard read by any standard lol BUT I remember when I was younger really enjoying the book. Actually I was forced to read it by my english teacher because she didn't approve of my original choice for my Independent Choice study, so she gave this "Halfway Down Patty Lane" and I was pissed thinking it was going to be a "Chick Book" but I instantly became hooked!
Here's Amazon's discription:
Quote:
How could this be real? That's what Kate Calambra keeps asking herself when she wakes up one morning in the 1850's, in a small mill town. She was living before in the 1980's when she had gone to sleep the night before. Kate has to accept the unbelievable truth- she really has gone 130 years back in time.
Now she is Kate O'Hara, one of five children in an Irish immigrant family. To add to her confusion, Kate finds herself overwhelmingly attracted to her handsome "older brother," Patrick. Kate's growing love for Patrick seems hopeless. After all, he thinks she is his sister. Kate sets out to do the impossible--convince Patrick that she has traveled back in time. But even if she is able to do that, and Patrick returns her love, will they ever know if Kate can stay in the 1850's, or will they one day wake up years apart?
In my opinion they leave out a lot of important aspects of the book like it describes the horrible living conditions of many immigrants, the low wages and the long hours. Its like a history book, sci-fi and romance novel all in one LoL
Anyways just something to look into

I read Tuesdays With Morrie a few years ago...against my will. I had to read it for a class in grad school. I though "Why in the world are they making me read this cheesy piece of crap?" But I read it...and loved it! The guy says so much. I immediately bought a copy for a good friend who was at that time in the psychiatric crisis unit. Meant a lot to him. Then I loaned it to a client who was in foster care. She was loving it...then she ran away and took my book!Anyway...I heartily second your recommendation.

Cheesy piece of crap? That's what attracted me into buying it in the first place! It's fantastic though, really hits ya in that place. My favourite quote was ''when you're in bed, you're dead,'' or something along those lines! In the book, Morrie talks about money and material possessions not being of any real value, that money doesn't make you fully happy. But sure, you can have all the love in the world, but if you have no money and nothing to give your children then wouldn't that ultimately cause unhappiness. I guess that's taking it to the extreme though. That was one of my questions.

Thanks for the recommendation. Nope, haven't read it, but I'll look into it. It reminds me of a different series of books by an Irish author (I can't rememeber the ladies name). There was about five of them: Rosie's Quest/Troubles/... Sorry for the lack of details, I haven't read them for a few years. In case anybody's interested, they dealt with Ireland's history from the beginning of the 1900's onwards (as far as I rememeber). Thanks again NtroducingMyself.
