Here's the reason it's important to not devalue science and let just any theory into the classroom, i.e. intelligent design.

Well, first, there's the scientific fact that we've seen it from space, it's round, you dorks.
Second, Scotty, where do you find these things?!
-
I have absolutely nothing to do and great big web to do it in. I mean you can only look at so much porn before ya move onto something else..
Did you read some of their grand theories on why things are the way they are. Some may say it sounds plausible... besides that photography your talking about is all faked and caused by angles of reflection from swamp gas that was firing off... wait I'm getting my shit mixed up.

That website is not a serious one, as you can see from the 'Current Events' page. The real Flat Earth Society's page is at http://www.theflatearthsociety.org/ There is a discussion here.

Seriously, Scotty. Get all that nonsense into the categories it belongs in! Sheesh!

They are morons........'flat' earth!!!

I think that site is all a joke, if not then there are even more people to add to my list of people who are too stupid to continue living on my planet. If you read it as a joke, or a lesson in why science is important and not just taking the word written down in books or what some asshole claims with out evidence is important. The evidence they offer is crap, the entire site is crap, but funny, and thought provoking. Maybe thats the point?

Isn't the point of the website that you can put scientific words around any stupid claim and make it sound plausible. It's only the testing of the theory that makes it legitimate and that a theory having not been subjected to the rigors of science is of no, or at best little value. Which is why the classroom shouldn't be open to any and every theory put forth, it should be reserved for the most tested with the most consistent results.

Nah...intertia and gravity have been proven. See...that's the difference between a theory and a fact.

Woo-hoo! Another evolution/creation/science argument!I was SO hoping there would be another one soon!
-
Be careful what you wish for!

Let's see, what was the name of that thing that Einstein came up with to explain gravity? Oh ya, the Theory of General Relativity.

Nah...intertia and gravity have been proven. See...that's the difference between a theory and a fact. Gravity is very theoretical. No one really knows how it works or the mechanisms by which it functions. All that's understood, as far as has been observed, is that things with mass exhibit the property of gravitation.Beyond that, on a more philosophical level, is any theory every really proven. Theories are always subject to change and update as our understandings change and grow. No theory is perfect they are simply what best describes, with the highest level of predictability and reproducible results any given happening. There is no fact, as understanding progresses so does the theory. However, this doesn't mean that any and every theory is acceptable for consideration in any given field. To be a credible theory it must be tested and the results must surpass on be on par with a competing theory. Rather than spending energies arguing, in courts and elected offices, that any given tract of thought should be given equal consideration, that time and money would be better spent using credible science to demonstrate they superiority or plausibility of why it's credible. Simply having a theory is not enough. And further still, just because a tract of thought isn't accepted immediately doesn't mean you give up on it. It means you have to keep showing more and more reproducible, predictable, results until there can be no denying it's equal or greater validity.
