" With all the peer-pressure back then to abstain, there were fewer folks that did not do exactly that."And you base this idea on what?

Pope says condoms won't solve AIDS

Honestly dont even know how to take this Quote: With all the peer-pressure back then to abstain, there were fewer folks that did not do exactly that."I dont know if he meant.. that less people didnt abstain, or less people did abstain...Am I just a stoner???

Or the reverse... with some many people telling you not to do it more people are willing to rebel against what they are told not to do. Also, when a certain topic is so "hush hush" it makes a person want to go out and experience themselves to figure out what all the "fuss" is about.
I like to use my family as an example. Sex was something my parents talked to us about and explained to us. I knew from a pretty early age what sex was, how a baby was conceived, and the possibility of STD's etc. Because of that I believe that's a good reason why none of my parents children got pregnant, got someone else pregnant, ended up with an STD etc. My mother knew what it was like to have a baby young, she had my oldest brother when she was 15. Last thing she wanted was for one of her kids to have to grow up too fast like she had to do.
I will admit, that none of my siblings (or myself) waiting until marriage to have sex, but we were later in our teen years and we all used protection (my sisters used birth control and had their partner use condoms). I waiting until I was almost 18 before I had sex, 2 months away from my 18th birthday to be exact. I had many opportunities before that time to have sex, but I think because there wasn't the mystery behind sex and knowing the risks I waited until I knew I was mature enough to handle my actions.
But anyway... I just think we need to get into the 21st Century and be realistic with the times. I am not saying abstinence is a bad choice, but it's not the ideal or even realistic choice for everyone. Disease is very real and we need to make sure people, young and old, are well informed and understand how to properly protect themselves. It's been more than proven that just preaching Abstinence is not enough, it needs to be combined with proper sex education.
Though I was thinking Thor that in a way you are kind of being hypocritical in this thread. You talk about how you are against sex education and people should use abstinence yet you post on a board that has a very strong sex education factor to it... not to mention you have, on many different occasions, given sex education to young people yourself about proper protection and even how to please their partner. How is this any different than what I have been talking about in this entire thread?

Common sense and the kind of experience you get going through high-school. But for those of you who need a reminder...http://www.guttmacher.org/media/nr/2001/09/06/nr_gr0404b.htmlQuoting from the source: The most powerful "protective" factors for many teens are the perceived personal and social costs of having sex, getting pregnant or causing a pregnancy."Social costs" equate to peer pressure...potential rejection by their peers. They're just as likely these days to get a slap on the back about it. It wasn't so 60 years ago.

But you don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Folks who come here, kids or not, have already made a choice in the matter. Once that's done, you deal with it...you don't ignore it as if it didn't happen.

It wasn't a personal attack.. just an observation.
But its almost like you are saying we should only educate the ones that have already made the choice to have sex, but leave the others in the dark. I think thats completely irrational. If we educate them first before they decide to have sex, the less chances they are going to have negative consequences. They need to have the answers before they are put into the situations.

I'm sure there was much less pre and extra-marital sex back when prostitution was legalOf course, being a man of such exrtraordenary principals and no doubt one who practices what he preaches, it nescesarily follows that you must either be married or a virgin.
