So this morning I took and passed my LCSW Clinical exam with a pretty darned good score. I'm just happy so I thought I'd spread the joy...peace...love...harmony...(For those who are wondering what it is...it's a big freaking deal!)

There are two levels of practice in Kentucky. One is "certified", which I've been doing for the past three years. Meaning I have to have regular supervision. The second level is the one I just achieved. The process of becoming licensed takes several years and includes 200 hours of supervision, 30 hours of continuing education, and finally the big test. Why get the LCSW? Well, why would you work to be more qualified in any field? It pretty much comes down to increased opportunities and more money. It's like the difference between being a plumber's apprentice and being a "certified" plumber. Except I don't do toilets.I work in a high school but I don't actually work for the school system. I work for a community mental health organization and we have a contract to provide services in the school. That whole getting degrees and changing fields...it confuses me too!

Whoohooo !!! Congrats Damien:)
Youre awesome!!!

Maybe, (also, congrats, Damien, I missed this somehow... ) he meant (correct me if I'm wrong), but he wants to educate in the same field, or administer/help develop programs of treatment?

well done, I believe you have an important future ahead of you

Yep. Not completely change fields, just move from clinical to non-clinical. Meaning not do actual therapy. Rad - You're right though. A lot of times LCSW's get stuck in clinical because agencies make more money off LCSW's doing clinical work then they do when CSW's, LPCC's or other folks doing the same thing. So they tend to want to keep LCSW's doing clinical work. Which is reason #4584 to get out of Community Mental Health.
