Okay I see. I thought you were referring to same-sex marriage as granting "special rights."So do you agree then that granting same-sex marriage is not granting anyone a "special right?"

Agenda?

First off Thor, whether you wish to accept this or not your logic behind homosexuals already having the right to marry is VERY flawed for the reason not just I but others have already explained. Quote: For the umpteenth time, it is a stepping-stone to that happening. How? How is allowing two CONSENTING ADULTS the right to marry a stepping stone to legalizing pedophilia? How are the two even remotely on the same page? Let me save you the trouble.. same-sex marriage is in no way shape or form related to pedophilia. Since the two are not associated it’s impossible for one to be a stepping stone for the other. Quote: I think it will, and view attempts by folks like you to make social changes without a care for the future of our society beyond your own personal desires to be selfish and callous.Sooo we should never make any changes because of fears? Especially illogical fears like you have brought up? If, as a nation, we always denied change many positives would have never happened. African Americans would still be slaves, African Americans wouldn't be allowed to marry, women wouldn't be allowed to vote... I mean seriously? Again, Thor, all the things you have suggested as "possible outcomes" are nothing more than Scare Tactics. Quote: to see it does not mean it isn't going to happen. And certainly doesn’t mean its going to happen... which I can tell you now allowing same-sex marriage will NEVER be a stepping stone to legalizing pedophilia. But anyways... So you are basically saying we should never change anything and always live in fear? I dunno about you, but that certainly doesn't sound like a good life to me.With that said, I do not disagree with your underline statement that we should weight the possible negatives that could be associated with any change. But Rationally, not these ridiculous extremes like you have brought up.As for Hate-Crimes, I think you still have no idea what a Hate-Crime is let alone how it works.. Like me gives some examples with a scenario.First ScenarioI am drinking at a bar, and I tell a guy that I think his girlfriend looks like a slut. Than he beats the shit out of me. This is not a hate-crime even though I am gay. His motive for beating the snot out of me was because I said his girlfriend looked like a slut, not because I am gay.Second Scenario:I'm drinking at the bar and I am talking to a friend about my boyfriend. The guy next to me hears I have a boyfriend and calls me a faggot. I feel uncomfortable and leave the bar, but when I get outside the guy is waiting for me with a baseball bat and beats me with it. This IS a hate crime because his motive for attacking me was based on me being gay.Now you can interchange the whole gay thing for say race and it will still apply. They are not going to apply a Hate-Crime to a person sentence just because they attacking a person that’s gay, it has to be sexual orientation motivated.

Hello it's the 21 centery here we have test tube babies and sperm banks and we can even hire a lady to carry the embryo for the time. Also if I'm not mistaken there was a time when women were infiryor to men and when blacks were to whites. Now we are all just as good as the next and my own personal opinion is that a woman as a president would do our country some good. I have heard the whole every generation is better than the generation ahead of them crap. In some places that may be true but in this case it's not. I wan. My generation to be the one that stops the bigotness and all of that crap that YOUR generation failed to stop. And I don't beliave any marriage is santrune by God anymore because, divorce rate, the fact that marriage was only created for two PURE people. If you think that gay people are abomanations then maybe you should look around you because, all abomanation means is somthing ou shouldn't do. So then if you sleep around or have sex before our married then your an abomanation same as if you lie, cheat, etc. it's all abomanations. Now I would like to ask you one thin and that's to immagine if the world was different. What if the majority of people were gay and you are straight. Wha if we treated axactly the same and called you derogratory names? How would you feel, would you feel like crawling in a corner and dying or what? Far too much ground to cover in one post. I'd say look at the thread sdp referred to if you're really interested in what I believe, and why. But I do want to point out one thing: there is nothing wrong, in my mind, with being gay. It's the behavior, the homosexual sex, that is the issue. That, and the idea that gays think they can change the definition of marriage.

slippery slope arguments have a tendency to get silly though. What was the disastrous next step after dropping the prohibition on interracial marriage?
-
Gay Marriage??? LOL
-
EEEEK!lol, it's funny because that was the answer that came to mind as I typed the question. I want to marry my car and you can't tell me that's wrong!
-
I'm really, really confused. But I think that I confused sombody by my marriage rant. This is what I ment if you are married and believe that gay marriage is wrong then your a hypocrite because, marriage was ment for two pure people but you still got married so why can't I if you beleive it's a sin. Which I don't.
-
For the record, I would like to point out, that upon clarification from the man himself in another thread, if it hasn't already been covered, (I'll see if I can find the thread/post), thor is against the SIN part, not the loving part. i.e. The whole sodomy thing, not love/etc.

It means that unless you are with out sin the your marriage isn't sactumed by God. In my opinion. Will I still get married? Yes I will
-
Guess I won't be getting married then.

But yet, you still chose to, even though it won't be a marriage according to your opinion.I'm confused.

Because if your opinion is right, then no ones marriage is sanctioned. One thing I retained from school: Everyone is born a sinner, due to Adam and Eve's original sin. Funny how things work, isn't it?

Okay, the whole sex thing, I get, like I've/you've said before. But with the marriage thing, that I understand too, becuase it's been defined by law, definition, so on and so forth, as a "sacred union between man and woman". I get that. But what I want to know, is why you [more in general, opposition] can't compromise, and make the word/phrase Union, or Civil Union, simply saying that it's all the rights afforded to married straight couples? I mean, it could say something like "This document grants John and Rick/Jane and Sally the same rights that John and Jane have when they get married." Is it really that simple? Just the semantics? Well, not semantics, but you understand?
-
That whole thing is just to get to Christians who beleive in the sanctaty of marriage. I still believe that you should get married though. I'm just saying that if you believe that gay marriage isn't sanctuned by God than nether is yours.

Obviously, this topic cannot be resolved. Neither side is going to back down...
