I just heard about this today and the video greatly disturbed me. People think that the kid was beat up for refusing to join a gang but there are some things I noticed in the vid that don't add up. It looks like a riot. It happened right after school let out. It's crazy the gang violence in south Chicago. I couldn't help but cry when I heard the girl screaming "Darnell please get up!"... like... I can't imagine. Well I can cause I've experienced this all too many times but I've never watched a friend actually get beaten to DEATH in front of my very eyes. They beat the kid with a piece of wood and then stomped him to death. Gang violence is out of control and I really wish it would just end... http://vodpod.com/watch/2255487-derrion-...deo-right-jurisdejafrigginvu

Kid killed in Chicago [video]

I heard about this several days ago.Now I have a question for you.I do not need an answer, nor really want one, just answer it for yourself, to yourself. You knew what that video was about, why did you still seek it out and watch it?Its not a movie, its an actual life of hopes and dreams and thoughts being taken from someone for no legitimate reason.I have enough shit in my head that will never come out. Once its in its in, no erasing it and this is shit I do not want to see.i would if I were on a jury, but as it is I do not want or need to see it.No matter how hard you try, you can not unsee what you have seen, and the shit in your head is there for life.I try to filter out what i can when I have a choice.Odd statement for someone so enthralled with violence eh?Im all for beating the shit out of assholes that deserve it and have it coming, Im all for killing someone who breaks in to your home, and capital punishment for killers, rapists, and child molesters. To kill or hurt just for the fun of it? I am 100% against it, and do not want to witness it when I can choose not to do so.

I know you didn't want an answer but you're getting one.I was actually sent this video by a close friend on GMAIL who lives in south Chicago. He goes to the school but doesn't know the kid. I don't go "looking for" violence rather it ends up smack in my face. I understand where you're coming from because I know for a fact that I have bitterness from so much violence I've had to witness (specifically gang violence which isn't the worst). And of all the times that I've witnessed gang wars and people getting beat up, I've never seen it done for "fun". There's always a reason. I don't think people understand the strong hatred that these young men harbor in them from all the crap they've had to deal with all their life. And it starts with not having a father in the home. When I heard that this young man died I didn't just see it as one life being taken but five. Four of them have been charged for LIFE in prison. Each of my friends that have been to prison have NEVER been the same when they come out and they're there for life. Not saying that they don't deserve but to see that these young men who aren't even out of high school, who plunged themselves into gang life have now become ANOTHER statistic rather than an asset to their community. My friend also told me that at least one of the guys charged for LIFE hadn't even touched the guy yet his life is totally ruined. This stuff is serious for me, and I don't like seeing it, but in a way I need to because I need to be constantly reminded as to why I plan on becoming an activist to help my people who have a knack for killing themselves off.

School Shootings in Canada. Some of which were in Ontario.
You should see the size of list of American High School shootings, its massive.

Mr. U. Id say we live in a pretty safe community.. wouldnt you agree???
-
I am by no means saying that you don't live in a safe area, all I'm saying is that events like these don't always represent the condition of the area. Bad stuff happens all over the place.
I was walking to a bus stop with a friend of mine outside my college. I got on the bus and she walked down the road to her house. Within 2 minutes of me leaving her, she was attacked and mugged. The area is usually very safe, but these things happen.

yep, this is not a bad community, though downtown has had plenty of it's challenges over the yearsOne of the advantages in Canada is that our total population isn't very high the geography of the country is vast. I think that helps with the issues of social angst that some other places suffer from.Oh, that and we don't have a bunch of yahoos running around who believe than every moron has the god given right to own handguns and assault riffles.
