I'm on some pain killers, last time I took a dose was last night at almost 10 hours ago. I am constipated so bad it's really getting uncomfortable. I am not going to take this opiate medication again, despite being in pain, until I can drop this load off but I want to know if there is anything I can do in the mean time to speed things up. I have glycerine suppositories in the house but I am not sure if this is safe to mix with the medication I am on. I also have some fiber-tabs (bulk forming lax) but I think that bulk forming might be a bad thing because I'm already pretty full. Also I was wondering if it's a good idea to exercise or if it would just make things worse since I'm so full of shit right now.

Sooo constipated.

Also it's been 5 days on this medication, I have not taken a good crap in 6 days. 2 or 3 days ago I managed to get a little turd out but it wasn't much.
Sorry lots of information but I think this is getting serious.

I would contact your pharmacist and ask them what you can take over the counter that will help. I would also recommend walking. Go for a walk. It usually helps break it up and you'll be dropping the kids at the pool in no time...

Yea I think taking a walk to the pharmacy might be a good idea. I'm mostly concerned about drug interactions so I'll see what the pharmacist would recommend. I drank a whole lot of coffee this morning because usually for me that will be followed with a good dump, but just kind of made me feel worse today. Thanks for the reply- I will check in again a little later.

If your opiate medication is in form of pills then switch to patches, this will lower the side-effects like nausea, constipation etc. Stopping the opioid treatment is not a good idea. Please talk to your doctor about it before you try to stop the meds. You may suffer from withdrawal symptoms and such, which may affect your daily life. Without a doctor's approval you shouldn't stop/start this category of meds. I am wondering why didn't your doctor give you laxatives and/or cathartics. A doctor should prescribe one or both along with an opioid drug. Glycerin suppositories may help you. It's a first choice to relieve constipation in patients taking opioid treatment. If this doesn't work then you need to switch to something else.A new drug, Methylnaltrexone (a.k.a Relistor) helps restore bowel function in patients who receive opioids for pain relief. It is not an over the counter drug. Enema is also an option for cases with severe constipation and when other meds (laxatives etc given orally) don't work. Both need to administered by the doctor. Don't try anything without consulting/informing your doctor as some meds may interfere with your therapy.Either try glycerin suppositories or talk to your doctor. I am sure you feel better soon. Drink lots of water and fluids. Best of luck.

Hey thanks Saya for the courteous response. I actually ended up calling my doctor after my last post instead of going to the pharmacy. He told me to try something over the counter and to come in today if I still feel overly backed up in a few hours, or if I feel alright, but things don't get moving by tommorow I should come in anyway.Dose of magnesium citrate and the glycerin should do it I was assured but now I will just lay down and wait.

You are welcome.
