can you do a lot of sit ups to get a good slim 6 pack or do u have to run? can i use the abb roller instead of running to lose weight?

My parents got me an ab roller a couple years ago for Christmas. I used it for a while, since I wanted to reduce my waist size, but all it did was make it bigger...my abs got stronger and thicker, but the fat around my waist didn't go away. Those kind of exercisers are a total waste of money.
I have been working on trying to lose a little weight (and get my chloresterol and triglycerides to a healthier level), and although I haven't seen drastic weight loss, it is working. I stopped drinking so much soda pop (maybe one or two a week; diet tastes awful so I drink mostly water now) and cut back on fried foods, which are high in saturated fat. I have been exercising too, where before I didn't exercise at all. There's a fitness center at my apartment complex, so I have been using the stationary bike and recently, the treadmill which inclines, and that seems to burn calories a lot faster.
I don't buy into the Atkins diet or any of the others. To lose weight, you need to realize that you can't consume a lot of calories without burning them off or they'll turn to fat. For guys, this usually means a bigger waist, and for women, usually bigger thighs and ass.
I used to eat fast food at least once a day, however a value meal at Burger King or McDonalds gives you more than half of a day's caloric intake, without giving you much nutrition. Soft drinks have a lot of high-fructose corn syrup (as opposed to regular sugar; it's cheaper for them to use that), which turns into fat faster than regular sugar. I drink Gatorade which has glucose and sucrose instead. Powerade has high-fructose corn syrup, so it's no better than soda.
So, once you get rid of the fat, you can start working on toning the abdominal muscles. I haven't got that far, but I think situps probably do a good job for that. I still don't think those abdominal exerciser machines do much. If they do anything at all, as I said earlier, they bulk up those muscles, instead of toning them, which is what you need to go to get the six-pack abs.

The only way to get a 6pack is to have a LOW overall body fat level. To have a low body fat level you must either have PERFECT genes or DIET and EXERCISE on a regular basis.
I could go into detail to explain what & when to eat what but I dont feel like it. Basically you have to burn more cals than what you take in AND those cals must be clean.
