I use to frequent this site when I was younger to learn things about questions I had. The community was always good about logical and upfront answers.
I'm currently with my girlfriend who I will spend the rest of my life with, just need time for her to complete some goals before marriage.
With that known, we have been having unprotected sex (no condom, she is on birth control) for some time. Right before we started dating, I was tested at school for STD's and given a clean bill of health. After her previous relationship she had a PAP and everything was normal. I had sex with one girl between my test and current girlfriend, but it was protected. Anyway, my girlfriend went in for PAP this last week and today she received a call from the doctor that she has HPV 16 (or 18) I can't remember, its one of the two cancer causing strains. SHE DID HAVE FULL DOSES OF GARDISIL FYI. We found that its something like 3.5% of women it doesn't work for. Apparently she was one.
We have talked about it, and it almost had to come from me, or was really late showing and made it past her last PAP. She by no means blames me, I was tested and took all the precautions, however I was not aware that there is NO WAY of screening males as carriers for the disease. I just always thought when I asked them to run full tests that this was included.
While researching the virus, we found that in 70% of cases, healthy young women are able to beat the virus in a year. 90% in 2 years.
With this information, and HPV a virus, we know there is no treatment, BUT QUESTION IS....With her having the strain, and more than likely me being the original carrier, or having it now from her, if we continue to have sex, does that just start the year time clock over and over again?
Is it like other virus's that when its beat by your body, the immune system is able to always fight that strain or will I just give it to her again?
We are struggling big time with this. We have a extremely healthy and open relationship and plan on having kids after marriage, but obviously you have to have sex to do so....and if i will just give it to her again...it scares us that it will be a never ending process.
Thanks for the help.
