If a person had ADHD and depression could she take stuff like ritalin or adderal together with a SSRI?And if a person which doesn't have ADHD takes ritalin or adderal then what would happen then? Would she still have advantages learning and focusing? And how dangerous are those stims anyway? I heard many people even those who don't have ADHD take stims for learning. Isn't this totally dangerous when you consider that they also have side effects like sudden death?

Can you take ADHD drugs with antidepressants?
-
ADHD drugs are mainly designed to increase dopamine and/or norepinephrine levels; antidepressants are mainly designed to increase levels of serotonin (e.g. the SSRIs) and/or norepineprine and/or dopamine. So some antidepressants are useful for ADHD, but not SSRIs much, and ADHD drugs have some antidepressant effect. Combinations have the effects you'd expect from this.
Small doses of some ADHD stimulants may help learning in ordinary people a little, but anything that increases dopamine levels has addictiveness potential. Large doses lead to over-taxing the body as people do too much and get little sleep, and repeated large doses induce paranoid schizophrenia.

You mean ritalin makes you become addictive even if you only take it in allowed dosages? And if someone took ritalin sporadically for learning then would he experience a crash once he gets off the ritalin? Do those who use it in order to prepare for a test have to stay on it until the test is over?

they are addictive. once you start on stims, even low dosage, after a while you feel unsatisfied and take more of the pills. yes one would feel a crash once he or she is off the stims. one of my friends has ADHD and depression and he is over dosing on adderal. no matter how much i tell him to follow the prescription he doesnt. i suggest you not to take stims. there are a few other meds which arent addictive and may help like Piracetam, Modafinil etc.

This sounds scary.Does this mean all people with ADHD end up overdosing because they're addicted? Why did my doctor not tell me about this? And do you mean with crash that once the stim wears off after a few hours you feel low or do you mean that when you withdraw from stims completely you'll feel like an addict? I was thinking about taking stims but not on a regular basis maybe like a few days on and then when I don't need them a few days off. Would this be a bad idea?
