Hey. I just stumbled across this site and I'm not sure where to put this topic. I don't know what type of doctor to go see but I am 30 years old and still terrified of the dark. I always sleep with a light on somewhere. I refuse to go outside without a flashlight. All of these things I have been able to deal with until recently.
I had an experience where my tire popped while on the highway while driving home from work one night. There were no street lights and the road was very dark. I was able to pull off into an opening but I couldn't get out of the car to change the tire. That was a terrifying experience.
So the question that I'm afraid to ask is Is this normal? and if not how can I get help?

Welcome to A2A, Elias. Yours is exactly a question that people should feel comfortable asking here.No it is not normal to be so terrified of the dark. Cautious, yes. But you should be able to handle a task such as changing a tire.A good counselor should be able to help you get to the root of your problem. No doubt it is something that goes back to your early childhood. You have no recollection of it and thus can not confront it.

Hi Ellias, OK try this see if it helps, If you have a room that over looks your garden, stand and look at 1 o/c, now what do you see, make a mental note of it, now go back at 10 o/c, now what do you see, I'm just hoping its so dark that you cat see nothing, but from your mental note what would you see, it all there just the same but its dark, so if you cant see it why be afraid of it, its a way you should try and look at things. What happens if you wake up in the middle of the night, its dark, so are you afraid of what you cant see, but it was all there when the lights were on, can you see what I'm getting at.When you had a flat tyre, did you not have a touch in your car, if you have this problem why not? for you, you should have two a hand held touch and one that goes on a head band, like a miners light, this way you can work hands free, on anything why in the dark.See how you get on.Good Luck
